Maybe some sort of anti-vaccine

Foremost among the strategies researchers have devised to break through misgivings about vaccination is, essentially, scaring people into doing it. In 2015, Zachary Horne, a psychology professor at Arizona State University, divided 315 participants into three groups. The first group read a story about a child who contracted measles; looked at a picture of a child with measles, mumps, or rubella; and read warnings about the importance of vaccination. The second simply read statistics showing there is no link between vaccination and autism. The third read about an unrelated topic. The group exposed to the vivid anecdotes were more likely to change their attitude toward vaccines than the other two. Vaccine skeptics often tell frightening personal stories of injury; Horne did the same thing, but for diseases.

Thats something that can be challenging because most of those who have these malinformed ideas are so stuck to their beliefs due to distrust of authority and institutions that make up society.

Not being allowed into any sort of public space ever until they have had the jab?

Nope.  Because it's all God's plan.  You don't really need vaccines or healthcare.

It took Elvis getting a polo vaccine to make it very popular.

So ... where's Elvis?

Putin's covid-19 vaccine.

Vaccinate no one for the next 40 years? Let the diseases kill and maim freely. Then a whole new generation will rejoice when they are once again allowed in 2060.

2020-10-18 2:14:53 AM
Let Polio pop up again and allow people to walk through the wards in hospitals where all of the polio patients are kept and there will be waiting lines to get the vaccination. The government made it mandatory for us to get vaccinations before entering school ages ago or you did not get in and simple laws will prevent so-called home schooling. Each home schooled person has to take a federally regulated test to prove they actually learned all of the necessary material before they can get a certificate. No vax. No certificate.

Mass quarantines.

If you get vaccinated, you go over HERE; if not, you go over THERE.

The same conditions exist on both sides, but there's no interaction or exchange between them except via carefully monitored sterile clean zones.

On THAT side, diseases are allowed to run their course. On THIS side, vaccines are readily available.

It shouldn't take long, really.

All pro-vaxxers automatically volunteer for the Trump Vaccine.  It'll be great. Let's use politics instead of science!

But what if it accidentally works really well and pro-vaxxers are the only ones who survive?  Then who will be left to worry about the chicken feet or whatever?

there's a loose correlation between being Republican and questioning vaccines

It used to be a fairly bipartisan bit of idiocy, but you can count on modern conservatives to go all-in on something really, really stupid.

Death should quiet them--that'd be a change.

One the one side: Lifetimes dedicated to study and research.  Data.

One the other: "I read on the internet" "I'm an attention whore"

Nothing will fix that except a personal experience.  Say...that's the way conservative brains work, isn't it?

Why ask the question if the first reaction is to insult them?  They're absolutely misinformed individuals.  Getting them to the point of understanding that ignorance likely won't be accomplished by calling them idiots to their faces, that's a surefire way to make them dig in their heels.

Christ, if Trump loses and a vaccine becomes available shortly after Biden is sworn is, how fast will Donald Trump become an anti-vaxxer and tell his followers to not take it?

He was already pushing anti-vax during the Republican primary debates. He's only been touting one now because he sees it as "his" accomplishment. If it arrives during Biden, he will undermine it for sure.

I am truly sorry you think like this.  I agree we need better education in America.

2020-10-18 3:03:24 AM
I'm not anti-vaccine in any way. I have all my vaccinations. I don't get flu shots because of repeated bad reactions, but otherwise I'm fine with them. Of course, I also won't take any new medications/vaccines until its been around 3-5 years, with ample proof of both its safety and effectiveness. Once that happens I'll be happy to try the covid vaccine, as long as its not a problem for people that react to flu vaccines.

2020-10-18 3:05:00 AM
Death will not change their mind, but it will definitely remove a problem.

Just a reminder, we went to war with and occupied 2 countries due to a handful of assholes murdering a couple thousand of our citizens 20 years ago.  We also accepted 2 hour wait times at airports as well as border fences because it let blue haired old ladies feel a little bit safer.

Then a disease comes along and kills 250,000 and counting citizens in 2020 and we suddenly care about our rights to not wear masks or accept vaccines?  We walked away from the freedom path decades ago with our obscene prison population and a system of laws that target victimless crimes.

We also left the idea of a strong federal system in the dust when we stopped improving our infrastructure, now we just don't even make sense as a nation or a people.  We've become worse than anarchy, chaos masquerading as order and impotence pretending to be strength.

We're farked as a country.  We've become everything we once rebelled against.  The problem is that we're the hegemony now and we're going to take the whole world down with us.

You think people won't slip the nurse at CVS a couple bills to fill out the paperwork and just toss the dose?  It already happens at hospitals with flu vaccine.

They'll read the story about the feline coronavirus vaccine that worked, and then had a 100% fatality rate when the next (different) coronavirus infected the vaccinated, while all the non-vaccinated cats got a runny nose for a day, and conclude the same thing will happen to people.

I think it's important to decide what we want to change their minds into.

As it stands, the idea is rather open to interpretation, so allow me to offer a suggestion; ash to be scattered to the four winds.

I have no patience left for the troglodytes who would hold humanity back to the 17th century. Be it science or society, the ideal world I envision has no room for them within it.

I disagree that we're farked as a country. Absolutely the current incarnation of our society is, yes. But not the nation as a whole. Reason being is that we're pressing down and oppressing the people with wealth inequality and lack of opportunities that wouldn't fly in most other first-world nations. Not to mention the corruption of our government and its subsequent dysfunction.

Over time we'll eventually be shunned by the rest of the world and cut off from them. Even nations like Russia will eventually fall as Putin and oligarchies cannot live forever, and their descendants will never understand how to run things. So our people will resist, and eventually conquer the idiots who are keeping us from progressing as a whole. Be it by us saying no, or the rest of the world stripping our officials of power.

No.

You don't force medical procedures on people.

Treat them as the outcasts they are and bury them with the facts, but mandating vaccines is an INSANE move when you have Stupid Scott Atlas saying "Masks work? No."

The vast majority will want one. Those who can't or don't take it will be protected by the majority who will.

I repeat, there is NO REASON for a government to stick a needle in someone without consent.

This just gives them fuel for their stupid fire.

^^^^^correct
But, we now have a supreme Court that will force people to have children they don't want
If
the government can force a woman to have a child
why can't the government shove a needle in your face and give you some vaccine it's for your own good

Anti-vaxxers are like creationists, holocaust deniers, 9/11 truthers etc. They operate in a world with an abundance of evidence that says they're wrong.

So no is the answer to the question. The stupid runs deep and it is protected by large amounts cognitive dissonance.

"If the coronavirus vaccine is 75 percent effective-which would be excellent, considering that the flu shot is only about 50 percent effective-roughly two-thirds of the population would need to be vaccinated, "

Seems convoluted. Why would anyone assume a brand new vaccine for a virus notorious for causing the common cold should be MORE effective than the longstanding flu regimen?

You only need 60-65% for herd immunity, isn't trump's support base ~40%? So if everyone else vaccinates it should all be hunky dory.
