I feel like the judge is basically saying "look motherf*cker, an unredacted report would thoroughly f*ck you. This is your chance to avoid that at this moment."

Wake me when he complies.

Seriously, he's going to send a letter saying he was being sarcastic, talking to jesus, using "The royal de-classify", or some other bullshiat where the judges order will technically be satisfied, no further followup will be possible because they are outside the scope of the case, and trump will win by omission again.

I would prefer to see the evidence acquired against Unindicted Co-conspirator and, possibly, Client 3; but to each...their own.

Unless the judge actually has a copy of the unredacted report in their hands, this doesn't matter; they'll never see it.

It's not about seeing the report.
It's about telling him to put up or shut up.

Despite his best interests, Trump wants to Naruto run roughshod over the intelligence apparatus because he's holding a grudge against someone who made fun of him on the internet, he doesn't know who, he assumes it was Hillary with a laptop sitting on Barack Obama's lap while Joe Biden watched because that's how it's done in the Trump administration but it was probably a space alien who did it for laughs afterall.

And that's why Kremlin fairytales about Hunter Biden's laptop have no sticking power. Trump is worse, now, observably.

Yeah, because he's always gone down for everything he's done in the past.

I love it when judges call bluffs. These poor, poor attorneys. There is no way they are going to get any kind of straightforward or helpful answer out of Trump. He would be the worst client and the worst witness.

This is a big Trump win!  Two more days of free hamberders before the standard contract comes due.

So if Trump and/or his attorneys don't file an answer then the unredacted report will be released?

Not this time. He will just say he meant all the Clinton stuff, 140 characters you know.

I agree.

Do you think l, well, does anyone think that it galls all of the seated judges to watch Trump wipe his ass with legal accountability?

Are conservative judges by and large "fark yeah, he can do anything!" or is there a tiny shred of decency that says "this upstart whitechapel slumlord should be held to account?"

Uranus Megahertz: So if Trump and/or his attorneys don't file an answer then the unredacted report will be released?

The DOJ is holding it up.
This could also be building towards them.
President gave an order and they refused to comply.
Or did he give an order?
We'll see where this is going soon enough.

Should be. But it won't. Barr would sit on that shiat if Jesus himself descended from Heaven and told him to release it. Covering up Republican crimes is Barr's entire career.

If you mean there won't be a release of the unredacted Mueller report than you are probably right, but I would not call that nothing: Trump will have to admit that is tweets mean nothing.

Nice of the judge to do this but all they have to say is they are going through the vetting process now. They'll be released when that is done.

Like his taxes

Yeah, he will probably say that and a bunch of other rambling, incoherent and possibly contradictory stuff and then leave to play golf with the written declaration prepared by the DOJ attorneys still unsigned. Then the other people who were in the room have to try to best interpret what he said, knowing that there is a good chance he will deny everything next week, afterthe attorneys submitted the declaration to the court.

See, your first mistake, there, is asking for "explicit" directions from Trump.

He won't admit to anything. He will just claim he wants it realeased, but some Clinton and Obama appointees are blocking his ability to release it because of some classified info. But if you re-elect him, he will put those appointees into jail, and release the report.

He's had the lawyers defend his tweets, saying that they are orders.  For him to back off on that now would be, well... totally like him.  He always says one thing then says the opposite.  That's why his base claims that he tells it like it is... because he says both things and they get to take their pick.

What's to vet? Trump said to declassify everything, so everything that's out there about the Russia investigation is to be released in its entirety, including the unredacted Mueller report. It's what Trump wants, what he ordered.

/yeah right.

I suppose a relevant question would be whether any of his lackeys already took action based on the tweet. Have they already selectively leaked classified docs?

Like how the congressional committee on taxation is entitled to see anyone's tax returns if so requested? The ones who requested a copy of Trumps?

The law is extremely clear and explicit: "Shall provide".
No ifs, buts, or except....

Yet here we are, years later, and the courts have been 100% complicit with trumps refusal to let anyone cooperate with this entire legal process.

great, now I have horrific creepy images of Dolt45* running (Narrator: not possible, you know that, jeez.) in that silly fake-ninja pose. although I have to admit, $CENTAUR_MODE stance could probably only aid in that.

huh, and because we live on the intarwebs, it is already true.

Aren't there things in the report that is actually in the public's interest to keep redacted, like names of intelligence officers? It's a little bit silly, obviously he's not going to do it.

That's what I think will happen. And I think the judge will release what he has right then.

Excited to see the DOJ professionalize "the President is much too busy shiat posting on twitter to deal with your stupid request. He has told me to tell you that he can do whatever he wants and you need to fark off with this."

I think that the "I'm redacting everything about Russia!" Tweet was a product of the fact that Trump is pretty much completely infromed by Fox News, OAN, and other garbage right-wing propaganda that only tells him how great he is and how evil the Democrats are.  So, through that prism, he thinks that the information that this would make completely available to the public can only help him and hurt the Democrats.

But, of course, the reality is far more complex than that.  And far less advantageous to him.

Uranus Megahertz: So if Trump and/or his attorneys don't file an answer then the unredacted report will be released?

That's what the case is about, an FOIA request for the unredacted Mueller report. So that's likely what will happen.

starsrift: Aren't there things in the report that is actually in the public's interest to keep redacted, like names of intelligence officers? It's a little bit silly, obviously he's not going to do it.

What's in the public's interest? Individual intelligence officers? I know a woman divorced from an intelligence agent/officer who, in a deal not to pursue lawyers to expose the agent's finances, accepted the agency's/organ's designation of a man suitable for her to recover her losses-- to fleece the guy, an asset, because his file was embarrassing and they wanted it closed. The target had a dysfunctional relationship with his daughter who was in the way of that money, so the divorcee targeted her for emotional distress. She committed suicide on her birthday...the target's daughter.

Are you a Coen brothers fan? Burn After Reading? Lots O' Sex, C-boys, but another primary motivation for such circuses within a circus is money.

Up until the 1980s, the intelligence community was without corporate metrics to address interview biases and nepotism...in fact, the agencies recruited within families for many reasons that aren't...uhmm...unreasonable.

The public's interest is a conclusion rendered at a certain time and the procedures for a conclusion can take place in classified spaces. And that is why republics are governed by democratic mechanisms-- to ensure over time that gross abuses are uncovered and successes are learned and studied.
