Popeye was of by a factor of 10. Someone misplaced a decimal.

Plus spinach also contains other compounds that actually inhibit the absorption of iron. Not to mention all the pesticides.

The good news is, plenty of vitamin A, vitamin K, fiber, folic acid, and calcium.

That headline reminded me of an old childhood ditty:

I'm Popeye the Sailor Man
I live in a garbage can
I turned on the heater
And burned off my peter
I'm Popeye the Sailor Man

I learned a regional variant...

He is P the SM
He lives in a garbage can
He turned on the switches
And burned off his britches
He is P the SM.
TOOT TOOT!

Somewhere way deep in my subconscious is something like....

While cooking his streudel
He burned off his noodle

And was there one that went

He heated the griddle
And toasted his diddle...

And of course TOOT TOOT at the end.

Yeah, it's still good for you, just not as good as originally represented. And now that I know people who use fresh spinach, instead of that canned shiat I was fed as a kid, I like it quite a bit.

Many times times at the spinach festival in Alma, AR.  Wouldn't say good times, but definitely times.

Popeye is one if my spiritual mentors. He never lets bullies get away with their bs.
