CC is a state right where I live here in Maine, so there was no filling out any extra paperwork. Picked up a Galco Miami II harness which fits nicely, and more importantly is safe to use. The 590A1 lives in this, so there's no questions when I'm headed out to the range to practice:

I bet there were a lot of parents who said, "you want to teach kids how to put on a condom?" Probably still are.

Of course, sex-ed is not exactly "hands-on" (or at least mine wasn't). No need for gun-safety to be.

I grew up in Montana in a big family of hunters on both sides, mostly the menfolk, but because my mom wouldn't allow guns in the house and my dad wasn't a big hunting fan anyway, I subsequently never really got into it.

At the same time, I have a lot of respect for my hunter family members because they do it the right way - all of them get proper firearm training at a very young age, they self-police themselves on proper gun safety, especially my uncles, if you even think of acting stupid around a gun, they will bring down the hammer, which is being ostracized from the group until you not only repent, but become a proper teacher yourself. My cousin was basically banned from hunting with his brothers for two years for some stupid shiat when he was a kid and now, to see him grown up, after learning his lesson and accepting his punishment and with his own boys showing them the right way is really cool.

They also follow all the rules, are respectful of the land they hunt on - which is usually private ranch land where they need to build trust and rapport with the land owners - and they eat what they kill. If the shiat hit the fan, I'd head over to their place and hunker down.

I don't like guns at all, but I also live 3 miles from where George Floyd was killed. I'm not going to lie, I thought about getting a gun. I didn't, but I thought about it longer than ever thought I would. It's stupid, but shiat goes through your head sometimes.

I get the gist of your post, but far too many liberals, until this year, have stayed away from guns/firearms ownership out of a false belief of what gun ownership means.

D pols think that the only gun owners that exist are a bunch of Cletus Confederates in camo and they actively discourage their constituents from participating in the 2A responsibly. I'm not saying they need to go air commercials with them showing off their 9 mm or AR-15, but stop letting them control the narrative about firearms ownership.

First, a "study." Not science.

Second, buying guns has nothing to do with the corona. Even the most dimwitted person knows that a gun won't protect you from infection.

So... why are people buying guns?

Reality:
1) The fear that it will get harder to buy guns in the near future (esp assault style rifles). <= That's the increase
2) Just normal purchasing cycle, see a gun you (I) always wanted at a decent price...  <= That's me.

Shock:  Ammunition prices have gone way way up.4x maybe even 5x of what I paid a few years ago.

Now personally, I've never had a need or want for an assault style rifle, but they seem to be getting harder and harder to get in my state.  If I can find one that is accurate enough (my thing is target shooting), I will add it to my list to Santa.  Desert Tech MDX?

My wife and I were talking about it about 2 months ago, and we came to the decision that we should get us each a gun.  I got my gun shortly thereafter and my wife got hers a week later.  I have since completed the basic firearms class, and the concealed carry class.

In 2 weeks my wife will be taking the basic class and a week after that the concealed carry class.

I have also bought us both a non-fatal weapon to have as well.  The Wisconsin concealed carry licence also allows you to carry a stun gun or a can of mace, so I bought us each a stun baton.  Just the arcing of that thing will make any attacker back off.  Perfect non fatal weapons for personal defense.

Ammo for my 9mm is extremely scarce right now, and the rounds for my wife's 38 special are just about impossible to find in stores.  Online ammo stores are selling out as fast as they get the rounds in, so I am checking daily to see if I can find anything.

And as for the headline of this thread:

The basic attitude of the gun groups I participate in is, "good, but I hope they get some training".  All too often panic buyers get a gun, never get training or go to the range, then stuff it in a box in the back of the closet, completely unsecured.  In a few years they'll trade it for a $50 Target gift card at the local police gun buyback program.  It looks good on the news, but doesn't do a thing about the guns the criminals possess.

I think it was on Fox News, but it could have been somewhere else.  Do these people even realize how blatantly wrong their lies are before they tell them?

From my cursory googling, about 72 million Americans said they owned guns - There may be a few who are too paranoid to admit to pollsters that they owned them, but I'm sure it's not 180 million.

I'm pretty sure most gun-owners are not hunters, and lots (maybe most) gun-owners wouldn't tell a pollster anything.

Can you cite any examples of a guy without a gun breaking into somebody's home and then using that persons gun to harm the homeowner?

Just think about the chain of events that would have to take place for that to happen:

Unarmed guy breaks in.  Some sort of situation (?) occurs where guy breaking in discovers a gun (Keep in mind he doesn't know where it's located) before the homeowner (who does know where the gun is) has a chance to use it.

As opposed to the guy breaking  in just, you know, running away.

Yep, every firearm is *always* loaded, until you, yourself, verify that it is *not* loaded. Just because that Glock is sitting on the ground, with the slide back and the magazine well empty, does *not* mean that there is not a round still in the chamber, waiting for some idiot to work the slide closed and pull the trigger and get surprised when the *bang* sound happens.

Sigh, obviously Switzerland wasn't that concerned when they voted, by 64% to enact stricter gun control.  So, from now on, when gun humpers say "but, but...Switzerland", they need to update their talking points.

Switzerland's "stricter gun-control laws" wouldn't put it in the 25 most-restrictive US states.

In a way it is bit of a refutation.  As I said, for the majority of Swiss, freedom to travel freely in the Schengen zone mattered more than "never give an inch" on their gun freedoms.

But I think you are one of those farkers that can chew of pages of comments, so I'll bow out now.

Do you think Switzerland was full of "not one inch" blowhards? Because that sounds to me like a straw-man of your own creation. I don't think the Swiss saw it as some binary choice of gun-rights vs. travel-rights. The changes to their laws were fairly minor, and no one outside Switzerland would have heard of them if anti-gun Americans didn't seize in it as if it was some kind of denunciation of American gun politics. Most Americans, on both sides, who invoke Swiss gun laws usually don't have the first clue what they are talking about, and couldn't tell a Swiss Army rifle from a Swiss Army knife.

But if you've made your point, that's fine; I've made mine.

Talk to you later.

Pretty much just the way the NRA and manufacturers wanted it to turn out.

Gun ownership means owning a gun.  It means making it many times more likely that someone in your home will die from gun violence while also making it more likely you will die from a home invasion (when the intruder gets your gun) than if you didn't have a gun (which is no more or less likely to occur just because you own a gun).  It also means giving my money to a third party that makes guns and ammunition as well as the time and effort to care and maintain a weapon in proper condition.  None of that makes me safer, just poorer and more stressed.

CC is a state right where I live here in Maine, so there was no filling out any extra paperwork. Picked up a Galco Miami II harness which fits nicely, and more importantly is safe to use. The 590A1 lives in this, so there's no questions when I'm headed out to the range to practice:

Not even close. The Right will say "Look, even the lefties are buying guns."

Who are "they"? No political affiliation perhaps?

It was a discussion about the record number of first time gun owners and the large number of liberal gun buyers.  No one was complaining about "them libs". The general consensus was that the more gun owners across the political spectrum the better.  The gun group was "Calguns".
