Trick or Treating needs to be canceled this year (I was in Ottawa in 1970 when it was canceled due to the FLQ crisis, we survived and weren't traumatized).

The little disease vectors will be out there spreading the virus to each other, their siblings and parents and people who don't have a candy ejection device.

PLUS -  tooth decay and obesity may decline if the little farkers aren't gorging on candy.

Candy Chutes.

Or, as we know her, Melania.

Barely related topic of personal interest.

I have an odd interest in plastics, and no, it has nothing to do with an odd lusting for Anne Bancroft. I have a more than passing interest in what they are made of and how they work, etc.

For a long time, it really bothered me that people burn plastic. And "we all know" that burning plastics is really bad for people and for the environment, and that it makes toxic fumes etc. But why is that? There are some reasons. But particularly, people get really weird about the generation of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and go nuts whenever someone burns plastic because they think it creates PCBs. Well PCBs are not created if they are burned at a high enough temperature, and not if there is no chlorine present.

Guess what. PVC pipe is polyvinyl CHLORIDE, so you should never burn it. But very few other plastics have chlorine in them, so burning them is more or less ok, maybe?. So when Halloween is finished, please dispose of your PVC properly. Or use it to make a trebuchet-based candy delivery system for next year.

Yeah, you obviously don't have any kids. The parents seize the candy to dole it out so the kids won't eat it all at once, and end up eating most of it.

Or you could just hand them the candy.

Candy Chutes? You'll have someone's eye out with that. Srsly, kids will look up the chute

Yup. Halloween is officially "on" here but I don't know anyone who is giving out candy or letting their kids go out - except for maybe visiting the houses of other kids who are in their class at school.

Those are already within "the same bubble" so they may as well.

We are preparing six little pouches of lots of good candy instead of preparing for our usual 100-150 kids

He's smarter than me.  I made one, but instead of attaching it to the readily available handrail, I built a stand.

Where do you people live?  Around here it's enough to put a bowl of candy out and trust the kids to just take a couple each.

"That one doesn't look safe." [Munch] "Neither does that one."

Maybe the idea is to not have the whole neighborhood's hands in the same bowl.

Otherwise, yeah, that's usually a solid strategy around here too.
