if you are having a hard time with it, you will find Vice-President Harris rolls off the tongue much better

You should really be able to pronounce someone's name after you've worked together for three years.  Ya know, if you're not a turd of a person.

There, fixed that for you.

They need to be called out for exactly what they are.

I was thinking about that but I couldn't remember enough details to Google it.

Their pronunciation improves tremendously with the application of just the slightest amount of pepper spray.  I highly recommend it.

They're employed in the same place. "Worked together" is probably a stretch for David with respect to her.

Perdue is her colleague in the Senate. He knows how to pronounce her name. He's just being racist for show.

It's the same as when they say "Democrat Party" when they know that's wrong. It's signaling to their base they're all disrespectful asshats together, dur hur in the club one of us.

2020-10-17 1:18:13 PM
"I don't know, whatever," Perdue said.

Let that be the GOP's epitaph.

Perdue is French for lost.

Who cares what her name is?

In 17 days she will be referred to as Vice President Harris.

I've heard this bullshiat -- theatrically labored mispronunciation, followed by "...or however you say it" -- all over the damn place, so I know it's not exclusively Southern. But it sure seems like I hear it more from Southerners than Northerners or Westerners.

Maybe it's just my confirmation bias at work due to my dislike of that particular strain of twangy folksy pigheadedness, I dunno. But hearing this doesn't exactly engender more respect for all those unreconstructed shiatheads.

That guy must be from Uzbecky-becky-becky-stan.

RID Herman Cain

Again? This is on purpose. It's a repeat of Barack HUSSEIN Obama. Or "Democrat Party". Weak ass bullshiat they think is insulting because these are not clever people.

I hadn't donated to Ossoff until I read about that yesterday.

Please Proceed, Republicans.

I'm sure racism will work this time.

John Burke, the Perdue campaign communications director, said that the senator "simply mispronounced Senator Harris' name."

"He didn't mean anything by it," he tweeted. "He was making an argument against the radical socialist agenda that she and her endorsed candidate Jon Ossoff are pushing, which includes the Green New Deal, Medicare-for-all, raising taxes, and holding up COVID relief for the people of Georgia."

Guys, c'mon, it's a simple oopsy. Who among us, when arguing against a person's political ideas, hasn't mispronounced that person's name? Several times, in a row, each time differently, in what is clearly a mocking manner, to laughter? It's a pretty common mistake.

2020-10-17 1:28:26 PM

Cache: "I don't know, whatever," Perdue said.

Let that be the GOP's epitaph.

Yeah, the "Whatever" was the worst part of it, honestly. He might as well have added in a reference to "those people" or "their kind." Wrote this in a different thread, but he might have just given black turnout in Georgia a boost, not that it was exactly going to be low in the first place.

To be fair, I thought it was kuh-MAH-la at first. But I know how to listen and learn.

"Others were quick to denounce the remarks, calling them racist."

And they were correct to do so.  So why didn't your outlet say the same thing, given it's 100% true?

2020-10-17 1:31:39 PM
Wow, give the GOP a chance and they work a KKK into anything...

2020-10-17 1:31:46 PM
I think they may have misspelled "Intentionally mispronounced her name in a lame racist effort to mock her for being a child of immigrants". This is just who the GOP is now and they can either own it, or cut those people out of their party by refusing to pander to that segment of the population even a little.

2020-10-17 1:32:06 PM
I guess being a d*** is what it means to be conservative these days.

2020-10-17 1:33:26 PM
Others were quick to condemn the remarks, including Sabrina Singh, Harris' campaign press secretary, who tweeted that the comments were "incredibly racist" and to "vote him out."

Charging racism - the modern day's last refuge of a scoundrel.

Okay, if it wasn't racism what was it. Go on, explain it.

propasaurus: It's pronounced "Vice President Harris"

For the first six months anyway.

This is the first election where the VP actually matters.

2020-10-17 1:35:10 PM
Which is why I'm calling him Doughnald.

2020-10-17 1:35:34 PM
Hopefully he gets a lot of help properly pronouncing the phrase "has been" quite soon.

2020-10-17 1:37:17 PM
At work, there's a person who's name is Sofiane. I looked up on YouTube for the pronunciation so I could practice. Yea, I could have asked him. I'm just really bad with pronouncing names uncommon to me and I feel bad cornering a person trying to teach me again how to say their name.

Anyways, my point is it's nice to look up pronounciation on the web

"intentionally mispronounced my name out of ignorance". It's either out of ignorance or intentional, but not both.

Acting like a 8-year-old, just like his boss.
"Let's make fun of someone's name cause its not murican like our names, right President Drumpf?"

I think it's equally likely he's being sexist.

I'd argue that in 1944, it mattered too.
