Knowing Apple, sooner or later they'll decide that displays are overrated and get rid of those too.

To paraphrase Spinal Tap: it's one bigger.

Will Apple go all the way with the iPhone 13 and remove the phone piece to help slim things down and improve performance?

In 1995 that would have been equally popular. The 2007 model would have sold billions. Fark would have biatched about missing the subtle snaps and pops of analog audio....

As long as Apple still supports my iPhone 7, I really don't care.

/mainly because I can't afford an upgraded phone

I just replaced the battery and charge port in my iPhone 7, so I'll use that till the iPhone 15 or so comes out.

In the age of COVID and mask-wearing, no home button = no interest.

I'll stick with the 8 until it melts, or until I see an Android that doesn't present a huge migration burden.

I assumed it already had under screen id. My mid range Samsung has it and facial recognition.

I'm obviously late to the party on this - I have a 6SE - but why does this matter in the age of COVID and masks?  Aren't there non-faceID ways to access the home screen simply?

I think the only way is to just go back to entering a code, or just using no security at all, both of which are not acceptable. Nothing as streamlined as just pressing your fingerprint.

And iFans will just accept it because that's what they do.

A 3.5mm headphone jack would be nice.

unpossible as if Apple hasn't given it to us yet it obviously cannot yet exist.

I'll probably get a 12 Pro once the initial wave dies down. Mine is just shy of six years old and is capped at iOS12, which MS 365 will soon no longer support.

An iPhone without the phone part? That's an iPod Touch.

I stuck with a PIN with my 7 and now 10.

It doesn't bother me to type in a six digit code and while I have no real reason to worry about it I find it comforting that the police wouldn't be able to compel me to provide the code but would be able to use my biometric data to unlock it.

On topic, my 10 is holding up just fine, I have no reason to upgrade for the foreseeable future. Honestly have no idea what features (if any) the 12 is adding.

5G, which won't actually do anything for most users until the 12 is on the cusp of obsolete.

My low to maybe mid range Motorola has both. The face part isn't as smooth as my work provided iPhone but having the finger scanner on the back is way easier with mask on.

Nah.  Badmouthing Apple is genuinely fun.
