I mean....Barrett chose not to put in an opinion on something she knew nothing about.

That she hasn't had enough information one way or the other to convince her is.... maybe..... a bridge too far.

We Gen-Xers were at the gates once, weren't we? Hell I can't remember. My recollections of those times are...hazy. The Baby Boomers rattled 'em pretty good when they had their chance though, and they're the ones propping them up now. What I'm saying is I wish this next generation well, and will vote to protect them, but the interests stacked against the young, as through all history, are virtually impossible to overcome.

i recall in my yut me and my buds being pissed off at something political. a friends WWII Vet dad told us "don't worry about it boys, you're too young. let the old men take care of it". -sigh- meet the new boss. same as the old boss.

I'll view Greta's opinion in the same way I view all teenagers opinion on anything which is it's probably ill-informed group think brainwashing or something they saw yesterday on tiktok that is ill-informed group think brainwashing. Go to school, get a job, raise a family, have a life or earn money being a "celebrity" speaking to a script, only one of those routes gets you street cred with any but coastal elites little girl. Can we get another hallelujah for the electoral college?

Bring on the youngsters, and start electing them! It is high time we stop electing people who are so old that all they can do is look to the past and pine for the good old days, or if they do look to the future all they see is their own death. We need to start electing people who are young enough that they are still looking to the future instead of looking to the past.

Life in three acts.

Me at 18: I've seen the systematic issues in my community have negative consequences. I'll try to become an agent of change for the positive.

Me at 28: I am well placed to affect the changes I thought should be made in my youth. I can still remember.  I think --OH GODDAMN IT NOW WHAT-- What was I saying? Shiat, I got to deal with this first...

Me now: Fark it. Eat the young. My comfort is all that now matters. I will see you all die along with me, and you'll die screaming.

Growing up we damn well had that beaten into us by the Boomers telling us 'see all this? You can't have it. We're going to waste it, stick you with the tab. You are powerless to stop it because there are more of us than you.'

I just turned 50. I don't have kids, and haven't regretted that the second half of my.life. Didn't happen when I was young enough make a good go of it. But, I like young folks, from those now in their 30s who impressed me when I ran into them professionally, when I meet my friends' adult kids now. I like those kid kids, even younger than that, those I'm related to, or their friends I've met. Not just those urban smart kids with access to the world a large city and technology offers them. I like the small town kids and rural kids I've met. Some are more conservative in some ways than I am, but as a whole, they're less racist, less sexist, and less heterosexist than we were at their age, AND they're afraid for our shared planet. They should be. I'm willing to listen to them.

/ Don't hate all their music either

Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway

And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'

The problem with the young is that they're also inexperienced and untested.  I agree that both our presidential candidates are way too old though.  I mean seriously, neither one of them is likely to make it to 2024 statistically speaking, even if we weren't talking about the most stressful job in the world.

40's and 50's are the sweet spot for a career politician to take on that job.  I want a guy, or woman, who's just coming back from a boring midlife crisis to run things.  That guy that hit 45 and decided to get a motorcycle, but didn't go all in for a Harley and/or ruin his marriage with some little girl, but instead got a scooter and the appropriate James Dean~ish leather attire, is probably the right, level headed, guy to run a country.

A 20 year old is one close death away from falling into a state of depression for the next 4 years and riding "biatch" to some 40 year old with a Harley.

I'm an old person, so I know that old people are garbage.  You should not be able to hold any office any later than the age of 60, nor should you be able to vote.  After 60, you have no skin in the game except to keep things comfy while you decompose.  Leave the decisions to those with a future.

Of course, no voting until you are 25.  Cuz, you know, kids today...

Even without Greta  anyone over 70 would have noticed changes in the weather. Drought, flooding, Ice caps melting, excessive heat, all indicative of climate changing.  The pollution is killing humans and all other living organisms.  Greta is right and I wish her well. We need more people like her. Even if climate was not a concern we need to take care of the planet for our children and my grandchildren.  And I didn't even mention racism.  As for climate deniers they can bugger off. Reality will slap them in the face or their backside.

It's not so much brainwashing with kids.  There's little that needs to be washed away.  It's indoctrination.  I've learned not to trust people who don't think for themselves.  And how to identify them.

No kidding.

Nearly everything about protesting to get real change is being done wrong, ignoring lessons that people in the last century learned the hard way.  Then comes a bunch of people getting disillusioned, another group getting sick of chaos.  Then everyone longing for stability, and to otherwise be left alone.

I hope I'm wrong.  But our youngsters don't seem to think the past has any meaningful lessons for how to make this stuff work (and how not to).  It's heartbreaking.

Is there any advice an adult would ever take from a teenager? Financial, relationships, career choices? No. She has no idea what the real world is like. She's never gone paycheck to paycheck, never had kids or been married. The environment needs a spokesperson that is at least somewhat relatable. She probably a nice girl with her heart in the right place, but no one really gives two shiats about what she thinks.

You do realize that she is trying to educate people on what ADULT scientists have been saying for the past few decades right? The information is there. It was presented by people much smarter than you will ever be. All she's doing is trying to draw attention to it. And yet, you sit here writing off the entire thing and you say it's because she's a teenager. She's not giving you advice. She's telling you to wake the fark up. But you do you.
