I suspect the haters had a point and only nostalgia was keeping the brand on life support.

How different does TaB actually taste from Coca-Cola's other low-calorie colas?

Oh cruel world! Hasn't 2020 been hard enough already? No more Tab? I'm not sure life is worth living anymore.

It was sweetened with saccharin.  I can't stand saccharin, it gives things a weird metallic taste, but some people like it.  Originally it had cyclamates, which were a very fine tasting sweetener but were banned because if you gave the equivalent to 1000 sodas to a rat some of them got cancer.  Fresca was great when they used cyclamates but became awful when they switched it to saccharin.

TaB tastes like Sweet&Low.

I bought TaB several years ago because it was there and I had never tasted it.  It tastes like a diet cola which is not really a compliment.  Nothing remarkable about it.  There's really no need for it to exist at this point while Coke Zero and Diet Coke exist.  Plus everyone has just moved on to La Croix and its knockoffs.

Instead of Tabs I propose Kegs

I thought it was sodium saccharin that, when force-fed to rats, caused cancer.  That's what I remember from Back In the Day (tm).

What a damn second.  Tab was still on the shelf somewhere and Coke is just now discontinuing it?
I don't think I've seen Tab anywhere since at least the early 90's.  And even by then I think it was fading away.

I just wish I could find some caffeine-free diet sodas that aren't root beer or ginger ale. I have a caffeine sensitivity, and ever since the pandemic, the caffeine-free diet soda options in my local supermarkets have dwindled to almost nothing.

I'm pretty sure Fresca is caffeine-free. It also does a good job of freshening up your mouth cleanly.

My dad, who at the time was close to morbid obesity, used to drink it, and if we wanted a soda at his place, that's what we got.

You know, I honestly think it tastes like everyone's bad memories, because I don't know a single person who drank it that was happy.

I actually liked it just fine. It wasn't that it was anything special, it was more because it was different than the other sodas and was not particularly sweet.

What they did not tell us was that the rats were heavy smokers.

There's actually a shortage. I couldn't fine one in Maine anywhere recently. Before they got bought by coke that wasn't the case. It's not a increased demand, it's decreased production.

I can't even remember what TAB is like. I know it sucked though.

Bought a six-pack not too long ago. I used to drink it in the '80s. My son, 18, had never seen it before and only knew of it from BTTF. Asked me if I was Marty McFly. Then he asked if he could have a Tab. Of course I said, "You can't get a Tab unless you buy Something."

Diet Sprite has no caffeine.

Late 90s or so, one store stocked it when I was stationed in Shreveport, LA. I made use of that knowledge when I was tasked with bringing soda to a shop party, because my shop hadn't yet figured out to expect shenanigans when asking me to contribute to office functions.

I haven't really seen it before or since.

Same here in NorCal. I can't have caffeine because of a heart condition, so I'm always drinking either unsweetened iced herbal tea or diet sodas without caffeine. There used to be a diet version of every soda, but hubby is lately coming home with only A&W Root Beer and Squirt, which is a sort of grapefruit soda like Fresca. Hasn't even been able to find any diet Ginger Ale either. It's annoying.

But where will I get a below-average tasting cola that makes my stomach hurt for several hours?

Diet Sprite has no caffeine.

I know. It's not available. Neither is Fresca as someone mentioned up-thread. I bought the last 12-pack of diet Sunkist Orange soda at my local grocery store about a month ago and they haven't gotten any in since. I can't even remember the last time I saw caffeine free Diet Pepsi or even RC Zero. Literally, my only options are diet A&W or diet Canada Dry ginger ale, and have been for some time. There are LaCroix and the like, of course, and I drink the hell out of them, but sometimes you want something sweet.

My aunt EXCLUSIVELY drinks tab.  She's probably single-handedly responsible for it still being around.

I haven't had it since the 70s, when my mom used to drink it.  It tasted like the bitter aftertaste of regret rolled in cigarette ashes.

You are correct about saccharin as well, but cyclamates were the first artificial sugar to be banned.  Saccharin apparently has devout followers and a better lobby.

Diet cherry 7up is fairly decent imho.  Rum makes it sing!

A lot of my favorite decaf flavors are in bottles only, usually 2 liter.  It's annoying.  Really seems like they've cut back on variety in diet in canned soda.  I will still see the price labels for things like diet cherry 7up and diet Sprite but it's the normal sugar variety sitting there.

No Vernor's Ginger Soda fans here?

It ain't no ginger ale!

For folks not following a diet, it is part of a fantastic float made with a big scoop of  French Vanilla ice cream!
