My roommate and I just started season 3 on his first viewing of the show.

It's terrifyingly prescient. Almost as if this crap has come up before.

Especially the episode where a plague wipes out the entire Markab civilization.

Love the ship.  Looks like something we just might be able to build by the 23rd century.

Genghis Kahn knew that you never leave an enemy no way to retreat, otherwise they will fight to the death.

Give it to Bill Clinton.  Then they'll never find it.

But..but...Clinton!  We should be focusing on an ex president from 20 years ago!   Or Hillary's emails, whichever is easier.

God, I wish someone would remaster that show with modern computer graphics. Just think of what the space battle in 'Severed Dreams' would look like with modern graphics.

It's too bad Warner Bros owns it and won't do anything with it.

After watching and re-watching "Babylon 5" more times than I can count, it's only today that I realized the Omega Class destroyers look like a blend of the Sulaco ("Aliens") and the Leonov ("2010").

What I lack in observational skills, I make up in other ways.  Guile, maybe?  Or charm?

The Leonov is deliberate, as the designer deliberately copied the spinning section from the Leonov to make the grav decks for the Omega class

I wonder if he kept the files used to make it and uploaded them to thingiverse so others can download and make their own

Supposedly they also lost many of the 3D files and assets, so they can't just re-render stuff with better resolutions and effects.

Calling all the capital ships destroyers bothered me until I realised that nobody uses battleships today, and cruisers are on their way out too.

Our latest designs violate the Washing Naval Treaty limits on cruiser sizes.

Basically, this is a long-standing problem, the way ships are classed, in order to appear less aggressive in military spending. "It's a battleship when designed, a cruiser when proposed to parliament, a destroyer when voted on, a frigate when the public is informed, and a corvette when sunk."

That being said, the ship classing used to be role-based, and from that perspective, it has been a misnomer since torpedo boats went away.

Guess I am getting some processing disorder as I get older because it took me a few tries to find the model in that chaotic background.

Like what, no one had a sheet or a cutting board handy?

I've said this in other threads but my favorite thing about B5 was the refreshing contrast it made with ST:TNG.

It wasn't a bright shiny future populated by the graduates of management seminars. The crew of B5 were not that bright and were pretty much fumbling along the best they could. Frankly that seems a more accurate portrayal of the human condition.

Wrong-headed logic.

They are both aspirational fiction, showing a vision of what humanity could be. Or did you completely forget that by the end of B5 humans are benevolent Qs?

They both tell us humans can be more than the backstabbing shiatweasels we are now.

The only real difference is in the writing. With seasons 1-4 of B5 having a coherent and unified message, while Trek has a grand vision and very little coherence in storytelling until DS9.

You could actually toss Trek's pre-federation backstory, redo the dates, and B5 could the  be a precursor to how the federation came to be.

But of course a whole lot of people just overlook the fact the aspirations for humanity, as portrayed by the good guys in Babylon 5, is basically the Federation.

What can I say? A vision of a civilization based around people thinking in terms of service to each other, curiosity, and achievement rates a "MEH BORING!" From viewers unless you show a lot of good old-fashioned farkery first.

Looked like a Maine Coon to me. Ear tufts, very prominent whisker pads. Full tail but not super-long.

Given what happened to Babylons 1-4 the A students took a pass.
