(Some Guy)   DOJ charges billionaire with hiding $2 billion in income offshore, in what prosecutors are calling the largest US tax case ever against an individual. Not Donald Trump - a real billionaire   (morningstar.com) divider line

Trump spent a fair portion of his townhall arguing that he wasn't broke and called the $750 he did pay one year a processing fee.  He doesn't understand that you cannot claim an asset at a higher value than you paid for it, until you sell it.  That's not leverage, that's a flunking accounting student's mistake.

It's really getting to the point where we need to start stringing these people up.

Guy is worth far more than he could ever spend in a lifetime (and is close to death at that), but no, can't let the little people get any of it for basic services or schools or roads or whatever.

I bet the odds are pretty good that his company is a shiatty place to work for.

Everyone remembers how nothing happened after the Panama Papers right?

I mean, except for the journalist who broke the story getting murdered, of course.

Who was murdered?

The original inside source remains anonymous and Bastian Obermayer is alive and well.

Bastian and Fred Obermeyer are still alive. Their surnames are different but I can't remember which is which so I'll pretend they're not.

I should have read the thread fully first, but, alas, this is fark. Never read anything before commenting.

Oooh, Googly times.

"Failure to use [FAS 115] is viewed as the cause of the Orange County Bankruptcy, even though its use is considered to be one of the reasons for the Enron scandal and the eventual bankruptcy of the company, as well as the closure of the accounting firm Arthur Andersen."

Damned if you use this accounting standard, damned if you don't, sounds like.

FAS 124 only applies to non-profits.

Does FAS 157 supersede FAS 115?  Surely when it was enacted, people were well aware of Enron and Arthur Andersen.

It all still feels like "pulling hopefully-plausible numbers out of your ass."
