Billlbo: I know, right? Including this "speedrunner" from Summer Games Done Quick this year.

I have probably given way too much thought to the topic, and the more thought I give to it, the more insane the whole course of events is.

Like, videogame players are desperate to push this idea that games can be sports, but here is the closest thing videogames have to an actual sport and the players actively hate the physical component, they'll sabotage anything interesting about the physical performance in order to get the prettiest letter grades possible.

I'll also briefly note that the player in the video you linked regularly plays the game without footwear and only plays in socks, because when I think of a series of games that simulate club dance, I always take my shoes off before going on the dance floor, my Vegeta socks drive the ladies wild.

But yes, It's actually quite insane that I am a little bit of a pariah at the arcade because I play without the handrails and look relatively good doing it -- I say "relatively" because I am a 400-pound neckbeard who slides across the panels as though I am some sentient goo.

The techs hate when I come in, they know they're gonna have to clean the cheese powder off the pad when I leave.  I think they just need to be more accepting of who I am.  How else am I going to play these games at the highest level without the nutritional value of Cool Ranch Doritos?

Been finally trying to whip my first play through of Tony Hawk with Jamie Thomas because that is how I used to roll. Won a few more Fall Guys rounds, and still trying to finish the admittedly not strong Squadrons single player campaign.
Now that I have fairly adequate space for V.R. I am going to calibrate it today or tomorrow to the new room and finally dig into Alyx.

Mod I got the most out of recently was the X Games and Olympics DLC on Steep. Loved that game but not the lack of content, that fleshed it out with some really fun parks.

I feel like I will finally get a solid 10+ hours of gaming a week in now that most of the chores and house work are caught up. I have no excuses left.

I just want you all to know that co-operative mode in Pump It Up is the high point of our civilization.

Understand that this excellent genre of alleged videogames and alleged dancing may not appeal to Farkers because it requires basic human skills like "not getting exhausted because you walked from the front door to your car", but you can take confidence that my findings are genuine.

Consider that most people do not even know there is a Doubles mode, where you play both sides of the board, and then they come up with this idea that you create a dance team and you share the entire board -- multiple people play Doubles at the same time -- you even get bonus points for saying "You got served!" at the end of the song.

I think the reason I enjoy this mode so much is because there is this thing in videogaming where you blame your noob allies for costing the match, and now I can do this in my cutting-edge fake dancing simulators.  What the hell were red and blue even thinking, hitting the notes in a substandard fashion?

I really wanted to post a video of someone playing this, but turns out that Dance Dance Revolution and Pump It Up players are physically incapable of having enough balance to play these games without the use of the metal handrails behind the dance controller, it is legitimately embarrassing and I do not wish to give them publicity.

Imagine playing these games with the safety bar when you could be playing them with two long sticks, one in each arm, as you smack the buttons with the sticks in order to achieve the full combo.  Degenerates.  The whole lot of 'em.

Same.

We played UT so damned much (my fark handle was one of my UT names, the other was HisOwnMomma, so it would say "SuchAndSuch killed by HisOwnMomma".) Glorious times. I really miss LAN parties where everyone would bring their own rig and you'd just got to town with deathmatch, CTF, and the other game modes.

I continue to play Star Wars: Squadrons.  Its just a ton of fun. I finished My Life At Portia on Monday.  It was a good game, but could have been 25 hours shorter.  I started a Plague Tale: Innocence.  Despite some solid reviews, I'm not terribly impressed so far.  It seems to be a walking simulator, with the puzzles in the game play very obvious and straightforward.  I'm on the 4th chapter, does anyone know if this gets better?

Thanks to Moike in last week's thread, I've ordered some parts to upgrade my X52 flight stick to have a less crappy cable.  Hopefully I'll get time to wire that up this weekend.

Best DLC?  This one:

I have to say, their planetary tech is outstanding now. You can pick out planetary features from thousands of km away and it'll be there as you fly towards it.

All bugs aside, it's a pretty impressive game so far

/CSB on model M's, I left a job recently where we had thin clients that still had PS2 ports. I used one there that I found in a pile of old equipment for about 4 years? I really wish I had taken it with me when I left, it used to drive people I thought sucked eggs absolutely mad as I type fast enough that it creates a nearly ceaseless clacking... I'm sure those assholes threw it away without knowing what it was. They were too busy talking about their quiverfull plans and various fake news, and not listening to me ask them about how they stomached donald trumps clear godlessness.

I use a Model M at work, have been for years.

I appreciate the entire lineage of games spanning Dance Dance Revolution, Pump It Up, Dance Maniax, Para Para Paradise, Just Dance, Dance Central, and Dancerush Stardom.

Understand that I am a degenerate who takes up hobbies and interests that suit his various psychological needs, and when it became apparent I will never become the best Warcraft III player in the world, I saw an opening, I saw an opportunity to lift weights and become Rank One™ at the fusion of dance and videogame.

I feel like you're looking at it from the wrong direction.  The point of it is the player's skill comes in from adapting to what they get.  Agency and choice is all about how you use the cards you're dealt, as opposed to a static strategic choice.

Same. Loving Baldur's Gate 3, although I'm kinda not a fan of the camera aesthetic. Maybe that's what they are going for, like playing on a tabletop, but I feel like I'm missing something by not being able to look around.

Gonna hopefully play some tonight w/my buddy. I joked with him that I was gonna play an elf princess, then the custom menu came up and it was an elf female. Destiny aligned. Too late, I'm elven nobility, don't care.

I'm about to finish Secret of the Silver Blades, I'm on the second level of the final castle, only the inner sanctum left to go after that.  Then its off to Pools of Darkness, so I can wrap up that little bit of lost history.  I have the level setting maxed, so I have been at maximum exp since the Frost Giant Village.

DLC, like paid for it?  I really don't like any of it, it makes it seem like the developers released an unfinished game (Stellaris!, CIV VI!) but it would probably be Nuka World for Fallout IV.

Not-paid-for (mods) it would definitely be some of the aesthetic enhancement mods for the Elder Scrolls games.  Especially the ones with enhanced physics.  Yes, I'm a dirty old Nord.

Broke down and bought Squadrons.  Finally, a decent EA Star Wars game.  It certainly captures the XWvTF vibe.  Got called dogshiat in my first multiplayer mission, so that was cool.  Still haven't quite made the adjustment from flight stick to controller though.
