Got the credits to roll in Hades- what a fantastic ride that was.  Still some end-game stuff to do but I think I'm going to put it down for a while as Factorio has been calling me back (the factory must grow!)

I rarely, if ever, buy DLC.  But I'll be getting the DLC for Oxygen Not Included on day 1 - if the devs are still alive.

Or perhaps I should just get around to writing my clever idea for a mod - advanced chemistry.  For example - steam + sulfur on the same tile (above a given temperature) produces sulfuric acid - that can then be used in other reactions, like refining rust.  I've only barely started the planning for this, much less the code.

dj_bigbird: arrogantbastich: Diablo 3, getting ready for Diablo 4. I love Diablo. Especially when you get a character to that sweet spot where they just come in waves and you're essentially invulnerable. Very satisfying.

/CSB on model M's, I left a job recently where we had thin clients that still had PS2 ports. I used one there that I found in a pile of old equipment for about 4 years? I really wish I had taken it with me when I left, it used to drive people I thought sucked eggs absolutely mad as I type fast enough that it creates a nearly ceaseless clacking... I'm sure those assholes threw it away without knowing what it was. They were too busy talking about their quiverfull plans and various fake news, and not listening to me ask them about how they stomached donald trumps clear godlessness.

I use a Model M at work, have been for years.

Markoff_Cheney: phimuskapsi: Your setup reminds me a lot of mine.

Someone could get a lot of nothing done in that chair as well. It is kinda funny, my cousin bought me this PC originally back 9 years ago and the only remaining part of that build is the back up internal hard drive, but it is still essentially my first true gaming PC and has gone from a AMD FX 6300 with a 650 GTX using my old 48" 1080p TV as a monitor to this.
I remember drooling over nice setups a decade ago wondering how the hell someone just goes out and buys all this top of the line stuff and nice crap without realizing you slowly keep building and adding till one day you just have an excess of stuff.

Yep, just keep adding when able.

For my photo you can actually see an evolution as well. The monitor on the left was one of a pair of 1080p's I started off with. Then the one on the right is a 2K screen that I went to next, then the Acer 34" ultrawide g-sync was the next purchase.

My PC is fairly new new but I built it up over the last 3 years pretty extensively after getting into a better financial position that allowed me to splurge a bit. I have no major plans for years though, at this point it'll be a GPU upgrade at some point.

I really want to play the new baldurs gate but I need to upgrade my computer first :(

I was able to play it for an hour or so.

Then I shut it down for one reason or other and no matter what I do, I can't get it to start again.  It just crashes on launch.

Updated drivers, run windowed mode, turned off AV, verified integrity in steam.  Nothing works.  I am sadness.

Burned out on Gungeon, so I've just been playing Subnautica. Oddly, I can find the parts for the scanner room, but just can't find the site that has the general purpose room and it's driving me up the wall and leading me into Reaper territory all the damn time.

Beat DLC I ever got? Because I actually enjoyed it and the revamp it did, the ReMind DLC for KH3 and all the super bosses it added. Worst? Fallout 3 The Pitt.

LowbrowDeluxe: Pvt

LowbrowDeluxe: PvtStash: Yeah a good nethack can be good. BUT that's just craps table gaming for the ratio of player luck vs player agency.

I feel like you're looking at it from the wrong direction.  The point of it is the player's skill comes in from adapting to what they get.  Agency and choice is all about how you use the cards you're dealt, as opposed to a static strategic choice.

Check your analogy there.
IF i'm playing cards and i get dealt  a losing hand...against the house not another player i might try to bluff.
Exactly what was my agency in the hand i was dealt?

Blackjack is of a minimal amount of real agency, no skill that you can practice influences what cards you are dealt. There's no actual refined skill player agency to the static statistical odds of obtaining 21 without going over, while also needing to beat the house too.

Sure agency is in how i use the ice wand, but as there is no agency in obtaining it, there is no skill to practice at for it. And to find out what wand you got is just RNG.

there is no player agency in working to make sure you obtain ___ useful weapon. And if it is or is not cursed is just, to the player, no agency RNG to finds out.

You really missed what a ratio is that i am speaking of here.
Yes every game has some agency, you pick what craps table bet to place all on your own.

But when most of what weighs in on if you will or will not beat the game on this run is: do i get good or bad items do i find hard or easy baddies, are there more or less traps this run?
That's 100% nothing that you have any agency about.

Imagine Diablo 4 comes out. and it has 5 levels of difficulty. but you never unlock or pick one, ever time you start the game even for the game toon, you get a  randomly assigned difficulty level.

That's a basically what roguelikes are. you might have even odds and get what woudl be "normal"
difficulty of the random spread of good bad/ stuff. but you might have anywhere up  badass  run or those didn't make it past lvl 2 goes.

random difficulty curve is not a designed game by my POV that's just an excuse for padded play time where the vast majority of players just need a good luck run in order to beat the game. They can't actually improve at a skill that significantly overcomes the RNG weights of the mechanics.Ratio is what it is about.RNG/skillMore skill than RNG as what determines outcomes, , but some RNG is not a bad thing.but it defines if i am playing the craps table, luck not skill or if i am playing chess, skill not luck.and all stops in between on a spectrum like say poker, where the random cards are what they are, but a good bluff can overcome the RNG of the card deal. And good spot of lies and ability to calculate card odds, can overcome the bluff.calculating card odds is a skill you can improve at, telling lies is a skill you can improve at, but getting the cards you want is just random.

A new level was opened up yesterday in America's hardest game, "Dude, Where's My 3080 Car(d)?"

Bestbuy dropped what must have been a few hundred or thousand of multiple models all at the same time yesterday.  Almost got to add one to my cart.  So close.

Been finally trying to whip my first play through of Tony Hawk with Jamie Thomas because that is how I used to roll. Won a few more Fall Guys rounds, and still trying to finish the admittedly not strong Squadrons single player campaign.
Now that I have fairly adequate space for V.R. I am going to calibrate it today or tomorrow to the new room and finally dig into Alyx.

Mod I got the most out of recently was the X Games and Olympics DLC on Steep. Loved that game but not the lack of content, that fleshed it out with some really fun parks.

I feel like I will finally get a solid 10+ hours of gaming a week in now that most of the chores and house work are caught up. I have no excuses left.

ThomasPaineTrain: Best DLC? Old World Blues for Fallout NV.

I actually preferred Dead Money. The "beep beep beep", okay, that was annoying, but getting away with 100K+ caps worth of old world money and another 40K in gold bars? Absolutely delicious.

Worst? Anything from Borderlands: Pre-Sequel

Horse Power Armor (full price paid mod) for fallout 4 creation club. A slap in the face by the original slap in the face, Horse Armor DLC for Oblivion.

I honestly don't think I've played much in the way of DLC. As in, I don't buy many games and I buy even fewer extras. Which is odd because I've pushed out Titanomachina as DLC for Tabletop Simulator. It's free though, which means when you subscribe you don't really buy it. The idea is to get people playing it though, rather than milk people for their hard-earned kopins. Maybe if people like it enough, they'll be interested in playing it as a real tabletop game with their friends when the risk of impending doom rolls back enough.

Which is why I've been painting:
pbs.twimg.comView Full Size

They're all primed black. Leftmost is based with 'Sprout' from Uber Matte, and then a sepia wash with Agrax Earthshade from GW. Left is based with Averland Sunset, washed with Agrax Earthshade, both GW, then layered with Golden Yellow (Vallejo), Pale Yellow (Vallejo), and Fluroescent Yellow (Craft Smart). Also lowlit by Mephiston Red and then Carroburg Crimson (both GW). Right is based with 'Wisteria' from Uber Matte, and far right is 'Lake' from Uber Matte.

Mind you, I've been fiddling with ways to improve the game and one way, I think, is to revert 'pushing' slightly and limit it to Limbs and Weapon Systems with the Hard Rounds trait. This would change the way the Hard Rounds trait currently work as it makes guns too flexible. To recap: players play cards face down as a cost to play others face-up; Hard Rounds allowed players to play additional cards face-down to increase the Effect (damage, push, etc) of the Hard Rounds Weapon System played face-up. Maybe tweak some of the system costs (HR cost vs Charge cost, etc).

I should also commission this artist again:

Not much playtime this week, but I have kept abreast of Fallout 4 and Skyrim mods because I'll only stop going back to those wells when the next installments release. At this point though, it is mostly just a matter of installing a new weapon mod that seems cool enough to try.

This weekend will undoubtedly see more Baldur's Gate 3. I'm rolling through the different classes to get a feel for them, but I can't tell if wizard really is more efficient than warlock, or I just have a better idea of what I'm doing on my second go.

Best DLC was when Epic just kept releasing free maps and new modes for Unreal Tournament 2004. Those were the days. They just kept give my LAN party nerds free stuff.

Best DLC I actually paid for was probably Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep for Borderlands 2. The framing device was fun, the writing was some of the team's better work, and it unexpectedly hit me in the feels at one point. It's the most memorable at least.

Worst DLC was any CoD maps that were required to keep up with multiplayer, but cost money. I could afford it, but paying just so I could continue to enjoy the game because matchmaking would go to shiat if you only had the old maps felt like a pretty big "fark you, pay me" moment.

Tropico 6 has been getting my attention lately , played 4 plenty but it's been a while since I touched the game at all. Having fun so far.

I upgraded my folks computer from something pretty old to something new and my Mom hated the new smaller keyboard , loved their old IBM M klanky yet larger keyboard so I found a replacement she fell in love with.

I've been playing a lot of the original Tropico lately. Fans of the first seem to pan the later ones as being "dumbed down" but honestly as fun as the first one is it definitely needed some dumbing down, clicking all around the horribly-disorganized alamanac every January 1st to make sure you're not getting thrown out or invaded or running out of food is super farking tedious. I kinda wanna try one of the later ones.

I had alot of fun with 4 and so far 6 is good. My only complaint is trying to maintain missions or trade with The Crown during the Colonial time frame , if you miss one or mess up and decline a mission or trade offer your time runs out before getting another and it's game over man. Just annoying is all.

I'm pretty sure you would like any of the other ones , 4 is only $15 right now on Steam

I think it is still Alpha in a lot of places, especially beyond the early access chapter. There are some obvious placeholder things and gameplay improvements that are needed (especially in the UI). That being said it is still quite fun and playable.

My biggest grip as a D&D nerd is that while they are making some needed streamlines to the ruleset to make it good for the computer, they have mucked up the action economy a bit, especially for rogues. Rogues get a 2nd level feature called 'cunning action'.  Essentiall gives rogues some bonus actions that nobody else gets like "disengage, hide" etc. However, the game gives many of those actions to all classes. I think they need to compensate by giving rogues something in return like a bonus action attack   (The reasons rogues get these things is because for a martial class they have a smaller hit die and can end up needing multiple attributes to be effective, depending on their archetype)

Same.

We played UT so damned much (my fark handle was one of my UT names, the other was HisOwnMomma, so it would say "SuchAndSuch killed by HisOwnMomma".) Glorious times. Hell yes.  CTF-Face, LowGrav, MoonJump, Instagib.  You could cross the entire map in a single jump, but it would be in a slow, predictable, easily-sniped arc.  When my friends got more into Halo, I just couldn't see the appeal next to UT's fast-paced badassery.  Flak Cannon 4 Lyfe.

Planning on playing the fifth scenario of Gloomhaven - Jaws of the Lion.

I'm planning to pick up Torchlight 3 this weekend as well. As if I didn't have enough games I don't have time to play.

As for best DLC- Undead Nightmare for Red Dead Redemption. I also like the free "holiday" DLC for Borderlands 2.

The worst DLC isn't DLC I've downloaded, but DLC for games that's exclusive to say, pre-orders. And although the DLC shows up in the store, you can't buy it because it's "unavailable". As a completionist, I find that very annoying. Not my fault I didn't hear about a game three years ago to pre-order it.

Got a few hours of Batman in this week, but not much else, due to watching debates, or working late.

As for DLC, the best is either Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep, because anything involving Tiny Tina is great.  Worst DLC was probably the first attempt at fixing the ME3 endings, such that I never even bothered to add the later DLC's that tried to fix it properly, because nope, you had two shots and failed, you don't get a 3rd chance

Well it's turn based, so when you "enter combat" it goes into that mode. That being said, every charater can attempt a hide on their turn if they don't use that "bonus action" for something else. Additionally position matters: if you are elevated you have better chance of hitting, you also do if you are successfully hidden (in D&D terms it's called advantage: where you roll two dice instead of just one, and take the higher one)

There was one part (no spoilers) where I managed to pick off a whole bunch of bad guys from the rafters by sneaking around up there and keeping my less than stealthy party members well out of the detection radius.

Not-paid-for (mods) it would definitely be some of the aesthetic enhancement mods for the Elder Scrolls games.  Especially the ones with enhanced physics.  Yes, I'm a dirty old Nord.

I just played the Gold Box series this year for the first time, and loved Secret of the Silver Blades, especially after how difficult Curse of the Azure Bonds was (for me, anyway). Good luck with Pools, it's a lot of fun, but it's very difficult!

I spent a whole summer trying to win the last mission in Pools of Darkness, having used the same party (swapping one elf out in Azure Bonds since that was back when they had level caps) all the way through.

The final battle in Pools of Darkness is basically impossible given those circumstances. Without spoiling anything, the most productive way to approach the end of the series is to patiently play through most of the game TWICE with the same characters, which you can do pretty easily because of the save system. You want everyone to be a near max level caster and melee sort. AD&D dual class rules allow a character to use old class powers once they exceed their level in their old class, so mages can wear armor and use weapons and clerics get better to hit modifiers.

This is about the only way you'll cheese the last fights in the game. And even with that, you still kind of have to abuse some mechanics. I know they wanted it to be difficult but  otherwise it's basically a rocks fall everyone dies deal ...

I dualled all my characters, leveled them to the max by the end of Silver Blades. I thought it was the easiest of them. Pools of Darkness, especially the end, was still damn near impossible. I only got through the last battle after a couple days of trying for several hours, even using save states (for shame). Naturally, you need an SVN build of DOSBox for that. If you don't have it, google the ykhwong build if you're interested (it also provides Roland MT-32/CM-32L emulation, if you have the ROMs).

RyansPrivates: There was one part (no spoilers) where I managed to pick off a whole bunch of bad guys from the rafters by sneaking around up there and keeping my less than stealthy party members well out of the detection radius.

Oooh. :)  Okay, I'm definitely looking forward to this.

RyansPrivates: somedude210: Been flying around Star Citizen this week.

Explored some wrecks:

Finally traveled to the Javelin wreck on Daymar (also, I really love this rifle and the animations):

Honestly this was just a really nice shot I had:

Damn, that looks beautiful.

I have to say, their planetary tech is outstanding now. You can pick out planetary features from thousands of km away and it'll be there as you fly towards it.

All bugs aside, it's a pretty impressive game so far

AppleOptionEsc: Cities Skylines isn't scratching my itch anymore. And my YouTube algorithm is throwing Civ IV:The Rising Storm at me.

And to be honest, it looks fun. Especially the cheesey exploits, that aren't straight hacks. Because deep down in my sad soul, I want to be God.

Is it worth buying the base game at full price or just to put it on my wish list? The DLCs look farking expensive. Any must have ones?

Best DLC I bought was the Industries DLC of Cities Skylines. Really makes your city feel real. Also borks your traffic real farking good. So it makes you flex those road planning muscles.

But by sheer numbers, Wrath of the Lich King for WoW. So many wasted months of my life.

Hey there, the Civ franchise goes on sale all the time.  Definitely wait.  You should be able to pick up the base game and all DLCs for like 7 dollars.

Smackledorfer: I started red dead 2 last night.

I finished the first quest and frankly I found it to be a terrible game thus far.

Picking things up, aiming, moving your character, it's all as clunky as fark.

Ps4 fwiw.

That's the nature of the beast.  It's a clunky game.  I guess because your character can do so much and interact with so much.

Once you get out of the snow area the game REALLY opens up and becomes completely different and amazing.  The snow part is like 3 hours of meh.  Get through it and you'll find a fantastic game.

It's also the engine. The Euphoria engine tends to make people 'heavy' because it's not pre-canned animations, it's actually calculating the physics of your body in a physical world. It's 'realistic' in that your momentum and acceleration will be added to your actions.

Last Man on Earth: Been playing Persona 5 Royal after picking it up during the sale.  I had misgivings, since I've already played the base game, but I'm enjoying it all over again.  Beat the second boss last night.

Lord Bear: Best DLC?  This one:

/I guess its not technically DLC, since it came on 3.5" floppies.

Eh, neither was Throne of Bhaal, and that was going to be my answer.

Nothing comes close to Throne of Bhaal.  Better than BG1, and not many things are that good.
For "actual DLC", does Dawnguard (for Skryim) count?  Mostly on account of showing up free in my account.
/don't have my Steam account on this machine, so I'm probably missing something big
//but not better than Throne of Bhaal
///this slashied locked behind a DLC paywall

Billlbo: Best DLC I've personally bought would be Borderlands 2: Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep.

This is the correct answer.
