jumped atop the male victim and struck him several times while outside a residence in Largo, a city in the Tampa Bay area.

Has anyone reviewed the victim's yelps?

Hey, all you farkers who think online anonymity is a bad thing, tell me all about how this guy deserved to get jumped on his porch for a couple of bad reviews.

/I mean, they both deserve it for using Yelp, but that's another story.

You call those 2-sentence reviews scathing?  "Not bbq", "wouldn't even feed it to my dog", and "worst customer service" don't even register on the scale of insulting.

That's exactly the kind of service I would expect from any place called "Georgia Boy's (Whatever)"

Not scathing, certainly not witty, but definitely incendiary.

Yelp is such a garbage site. The reviews are generally a joke and the company itself is corrupt and manipulative of the business pages.

That dude is 60 years old and was also arrested over the summer for beating up his girlfriend. He might have some kind of angry old man dementia thing going on. That dude probably needs a mental evaluation.

If you read through a few paragraphs you will find out the victim is the son of the owner's girlfriend. Not like he had to do any sluthing or stalking to find the guy.

Florida has one of the lowest/worst spending on mental health services.
And good luck getting any on the insurance a "small business owner" might have.
Yes, he probably needed some years ago, but we don't have any mental health treatment in this country unless you're wealthy.
Guess why. Same reason we can't get regular health treatment.

If you RTFA, there's a lot more to it than just a bad Yelp review.  If I'm reading correctly, the BBQ owner beat the son of his daughter's boyfriend.  What caused the initial rift only Florida knows.

Exactly.

I've been hit by over 20 Social Security deals by phone in the past month alone, so I figure someone is making big bucks off of it. Not to mention the mail and the computer. Besides, this moron ought to have known that there would be repercussions from his temper and it sounds like the cops are getting to know him very well. Not good for business.

I live in silicon valley and I get a lot of business from Yelp. I know this because my customers tell me. Yes they manipulate listings (paid ads at the top), but it doesn't affect my business because there aren't many people doing what I do. They also call and email me trying to sell me ads, but again, it doesn't matter if I advertise because my customer base is very narrow. I explained it to a few of them early and they agreed. Now I just ignore them. Last time I checked, I have 14 reviews, all five star. I'm honestly not sure if Yelp is based in the bay area, but folks here definetly use it. Goes with the territory I suppose.

This guy sounds like an asshole (beat up and choked his girlfriend). Assholes shouldn't run businesses that deal with the public. Period.

You can leave a review for a business on Yelp even if the business owner doesn't claim the business. This being a barbecue place, chances are good that he claimed his business, but no one should assume a business is working with Yelp just because they see a review for the business there. I believe unclaimed businesses get a link saying 'Is this your business?'

tl;dr not all businesses on Yelp are there by choice

Nah. 60 year old BBQ bully has a girlfriend he beats, and the girlfriend's 25 year old son trolled BBQ bully into a violent frenzy with 1-star Yelp reviews, visited the BBQ bully so he'd give chase, then fell down in a street to get his ass kicked publicly, which will violate BBQ bully's parole for beating troll son's mom. My ex was arrested for criminal trespass and her bond was set at 50k.  She didn't beat the shiat out of anyone, I'd like to know why bail was so different, when the guy had a prior and my ex didn't.

Just curious, are you siding with the girlfriend beating and partially suffocating guy in the story?  That went after her son after he posted a 1 star yelp review?  Because both sides have an opinion on what happened?

Just for the record.

A pair of brutal Yelp reviews published Monday disparaged the food at Georgia Boy's Bar B-Que, the restaurant owned by Ahrens. Reviewer "Sean R." claimed that he "wouldn't even feed it to my dog," adding that the eatery's owner "should spend less time threatening customers and more time on learning to cook properly." The second review, authored by "Rick R.," declared that it was "not a great idea to threaten your customers, due to you serving garbage BBQ."

If nothing else, the reviews appear spot-on.

That depends entirely on whether or not the girlfriend decided to follow through with charges. This text merely says he was arrested.

As a self-described jackhole, I will confirm that this problem is an accurate statement. The very act of labeling another person as an ass does make the name-caller an ass also. Everyone is an ass at some point.

It's sort of like how being a nazi will never be illegal in the U.S. like it is in Germany. Everybody gets called a nazi. If you haven't been called a grammar nazi in the last year, you need to fix your sloppy grammar.
