I have a very special bottle of whisky that I will open and enjoy to celebrate Joe Biden being sworn in.  Until then, I'm not getting my hopes up.

Great. Complacency. With several weeks to go before the election. Just what we don't need.

I admit to feeling a little more hope lately... every poll shows Biden pulling away further, including in most of the swing states. I hate that I feel this hope... but damn, it's been a rough 4 years.

Early voting starts in Kansas next Wednesday - I plan on being there first thing Wednesday morning!

I've got a bottle of 2004 Dom Perignon but I'm not popping that until after Biden is sworn in.  No spiking the ball until January.

Right. They're not. Saying many voters want trump out of office does not mean many voters are not still voting.

Wasn't there a study done that proves people are more likely to vote when they know the person they are voting for is going to win?

There's an older lady who I play in Words With Friends. We've never met, we chat infrequently, and hardly ever about anything serious.

She hammered me last night with a barrage of questions about my plan to vote.

This election is different.

While I'm over here waiting for him to try and toss the results of the election or bring it to a court he assigned most of to do it for him, and if all else fails decide to fark over everyone as much as he can with the time he has left for daring to properly praise him enough.

And that's me being optimistic and assuming he loses the election even with all of their farkery.

I'm not optimistic. I'm terrified because I know the shiatstorm that will come when either somehow Trumps get more EC votes or Biden gets more votes but the Orange shiatstain doesn't concede.

I will only celebrate only WHEN AND IF Biden is sworn in. Not earlier.

Its a pretty damning indictment of our system that after 3+ years of trump behaving this way he still has a shot at reelection at all. The coronavirus failure pretty much cements him at the worst president in american history, without that he might only be in the bottom 3. It's pretty obvious to people in the reality based world that in 40 years history books will be dissecting what went wrong to allow him to remain in office for a full term. Despite all this something like 40% of the voters in this country still want him back for another 4 years.

I am not by nature a merry individual.

Nor am I prone to dancing a jig.

That carefully noted, I shall dance a very merry jig the instant Trump's fail is made official.

Copious amounts of sophisticated adult beverages will be imbibed and afterwards I shall fall into a sweet blissful sleep uninterrupted by pumpkin headed demons and the like.

For the first time in what is really only 4 years but feels much longer.

Good times. ^_^

Complacency on the winning side is literally never a thing in politics.  Human nature is to be on the winning side.  The more likely a side is to win, the more likely someone that supports that side is to make the effort of voting.

I haven't decided yet.  My mail-in ballot should get here Wednesday or thereabouts, so I have that option.  If I vote in-person, I'll probably go several days after the first day, on the assumption that the the first few days are busier than, say, the following Tuesday morning at 10.

Donnie told me to do both, didn't he?

Inauguration day. If trump survives covid, he'll still keep himself out of jail long enough to keel over from something before he gets thrown inside.

Yup. And thanks to the Electoral College, if they happen to live in the right states (Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin), then Trump gets to stay...no matter how the other 60% of voters feel about it.

Yes. This is an editorial trying to spin a Gallup poll into meaning something that Gallup never said.

The poll means that a majority of participants surveyed believe that they are better off now than they were four years ago. That is all that it means. They might attribute it to Trump's policies or they might not.

As the discussion has turned to booze: I will be buying a handle of Tito's to consume on November 3.

While I watch movies. Staring with Young Frankenstein and then I will see where I go from there.

On November 4 I might look to see if the election results are in, but I may just put that off until the end of the week.

I think this is one of the frustrating problems with american exceptionalism and believing that the founding fathers were infallible. I get why the EC is structured the way it is, hell I even like it's structure when you look at how the country was founded it solved a lot of problems and established some good compromises. The progression of history screwed it up as the country expanded westward - the pop and density difference between MA and PA for example is a totally different animal than the differences between say SD and CA. I don't believe for a second that if those guys saw the 2016 election that they would have patted themselves on the back and said "wow just like we planned it, damn were good" hell no, they would have gone "ah shiat, back to the drawing board on balancing rural and urban votes"
