ReAnimator: I tried not reading the news for a week to see if it would help.
It did not. The existential dread of feeling uninformed while all this crazy crap was happening made my anxiety even worse. So here we are. Sure it makes me depressed, but i have slightly less anxiety while doing it, so i guess that's a win?

When the world really is falling into chaos "just stop paying attention" isn't the helpful advice some people think it is.

I think the politics is the harmful part, not reading about it.

The secret to my silver dollar crepes is that I make the batter the night before, and let it chill in the fridge. Also, I put a small dollop of butter and just the slightest pinch of cinnamon in the maple syrup while it's simmering. Enjoy!

I wouldn't be reading political news to much if:

1> There wasn't a pandemic going on killing thousands of Americans.
2> There was an actual adult leading the country instead of a selfish spoiled old rich fart.
3> The job market wasn't nuked by said pandemic.

So yeah... happiness already took a hit. May as well go all in at this point because the arsehole running the country in to the ground is already on the crap list. Especially since he spent more time golfing in one year then the guy before him did.

The best advice is to immediately make your feelings known on social media.  Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc.  Everybody wants to know my opinion about the important political news events of the day.  It is by far the best medium for cogently expressing your views in a thoughtful manner, and your friends will thank you for making their lives just a little brighter that day.

Do not worry, my friend.  Senpai notices you.  We'll get through this awful thread together.

twistedsteel5252: Stress over seeing your country die before your eyes vs. blissful ignorance even after the gestapo carry you off. Wat do?

If Trump wins without voter fraud I'm going with blissful ignorance.

Otherwise I'll try to stay informed.

It's better to know of the bad things in the world and be sad about it than to be blissfully ignorant.

This. It's not the READING of the news that makes you depressed. It's the absolutely farked state of politics in this country that has you depressed.

Pol tab threads are a bright spark in the otherwise dismal gloom of 2020. Which is pathetic.

Who reads the political news?  You're supposed to either point and laugh, or break into tears.
