Bankruptcy: Golden Corral's new slogan

This is going to be a really tough year for a certain demographic

I would think that being a regular patron of Golden Corral would not have any effect on your ability to fend off the Coronavirus.

On the one hand, you're probably overweight and diabetic.

On the other hand, your immune system must be amazing, given the pathogens on all the serving utensils.

I just hope a few Chinese buffets survive all of this.

Yeah, I have actually gotten pretty good food at Golden Corral. They even partnered with Black Angus for awhile, and the steaks were pretty damn good. The food is actually kept fresh, rather than left to die under heat lamps, and the salad bar was pretty well kitted out as well.

Have you ever eaten at one, or are you just following the Fark tradition of pretending like you know what you're talking about.

The food could be amazing. For me, personally, comes with using the same serving utensils that a dozen or more people just used. Even before the pandemic if you pulled 20 random strangers out of a crowd I would wager only 3-4 of them washed their hands with any regularity. Buffets are inherently unsanitary and for that reason alone is the reason I refuse to patronize any.

Their fried chicken is really good. And the mashed potatoes are homemade fresh. Last time they did the all you can eat prime rib, brother and I ate ourselves into comas.

Breakfast is a better value than Denny's or IHOP. They will (or they did) make your eggs to order, how ever many you wanted. The location by me had good, thick sliced bacon. (The hash browns were nasty though. Never figured out how they screwed up hash browns. Just a weird taste to them.) Then add some toast, fruit, orange juice, carton of milk and some pancakes or french toast and you had a very filling meal or $10. Always went at 7:30 on the dot so that every thing was still fresh.

Haven't been in over a year. It was my 2-3x a year treat. Will miss them if they leave Dallas.

Fair enough, but that's also why I am a little picky about which buffets I would go to. GC was actually well maintained and things were swapped out a lot. Now, we definitely don't want to go to any.

Fair enough. The one time I did visit a GC it clearly was not well maintained. I have also ate at other buffets in my life, but watching patrons leave the bathroom without washing their hands, or play with pets left in their vehicles were the final straws.

Well that and an eating disorder that is only made worse by having "unlimited" food around me.

I live in Hawaii and although we see Golden Corral commercials, we don't have one.

I was on the mainland last years and I think their slogan should be - Golden Corral for people who used to be in the Army and really miss the food.

My last golden corral experience was pretty bad.. they have a serving station where they serve pork steaks ..it was burned I mean leathery charcoal burned.  No one working in  the restaurant spoke enough english to understand that.

Golden Corral cooks steaks to order every day.  You just have to be a little patient and not treat the grill guy like a vending machine.

/A surprising number of older people at GC want Well Done or Extra Well done. They get it.
//YYMV if your cook is new and thinks that the difference between 'rare' and 'medium' is how much of the inside is raw.
///I have been patronizing my local GC extra during COVID because I want them to survive

I wish I could do this. There is a particular waitress (Mary) that has been there (The Colony/Dallas) for years and years. She is probably in her mid to late 60's. You can tell she probably has had a rough life. But my God is she friendly and is an excellent server. Always made it a point to see if she was working and where her section was. Tried to tip a little better than normal. I imagine she would have a hard time getting work elsewhere, unless it was the overnight shift at a restaurant. I want GC to survive as well but I just don't see how they can.

Yeah, you obviously haven't read a single post in this thread from anyone who's gone to GC, just the people who trot out old, tired jokes.
