I told the kids there would be no Halloween this year back in May once they started reopening bars and restaurants.

We're calling it the year without a summer, but I guess its going to apply to a lot of things until sometime late next year when vaccine therapies are reasonably effective and available.

Going to turn off the porch lights and close the blinds this year. I don't want to encourage unsafe behavior. Not that it will make a difference because I know based on what I've seen throughout the Summer that at least half the parents in my neighborhood will still take their little ones trick or treating.

2020-10-04 2:40:33 PM
I have no idea officially but I won't be participating.  If they go through with trick or treating we'll put a bowl of candy out front with a "help yourself" model.

I've been in my condo for 21 years and have had trick or treaters once in that time.  I'll turn off my exterior lights just in case

Little Urger will be hunting for candy in little plastic pumkins while dressed up a'la Easter but with the Great Pumpkin instead of the Easter Bunny.

This is Vegas. Everyday is Halloween.

I've seen drive through haunted houses being planned which will be...interesting.

We have a cabin rental at the big gay campground. They usually have a covered dish dinner and hay ride and cabin crawl. This year no hay ride and the seating at the bon fire will be distanced. They'll still have shooters served at the bon fire.

I'm making these.
vodka, jello, bobo balls, dried fruit and pop rocks. I received the petri dishes and individually wrapped spoons last week.

My cabin has a stove and full sized fridge. If anything can survived boiling water, vodka..prepared with my gloved hands and served in sterile covered petri dishes. It'll probably break out of the fridge, slither across the floor and murder you in your sleep.

Halloween is not cancelled in my city, but I am not handing out candy. I am still going to buy candy for myself.

2020-10-04 3:02:00 PM
We don't get any kids out here I'm too far out in the sticks but I still buy candy anyway just in case some youngsters knock on the door...okay fine I just eat it all.

I don't know what everyone is doing in town but I don't think they've announced anything yet.

2020-10-04 3:03:51 PM
I'm not really sure as I don't have little kids and I'm basically social distancing from the whole damn town. I'll just assume it has been and keep my light off. The neighbor has dogs, their fence butts up right at my gate, people won't come in through my gate because it sounds like the angry dogs are directly behind my gate, this works out fine. {I have a six-foot-tall, solid gate, you can't see through it. Just in case someone asks.}

Here in Fort Worth, Mayor Betsy Price issued a statement warning parents not to let their kids go trick-or-treating, citing Covid concerns

She's a Republican nutjob, but does have her moments of clarity.

The town had a chat and there is a divide. Some are going to leave the porch lights on and do the normal thing. Many are not or hanging candy bags on the fence or gate

I live far enough outside of town that I don't get trick or treaters normally so not much is changing around here.

Nope. All the churches (Hillsong, CCV, etc) are having their Halloween-rip-off "fall festival" on Halloween. No masks required! Jesus will protect you!!!

No idea. Don't care.

/best part of halloween is turning off all the lights and watching kids skip my place.
//if society didn't treat me like i was a disposable cripple, i'd change my mind. but as it is - fark off.

never any kids on my street anyway so i won't really notice any difference

No, but the village is discussing how to make it a little bit safer.

You cannot "cancel" Halloween, as it is not organized. If someone wants to knock on your door and ask for candy they will.

2020-10-04 6:38:03 PM
I think it was cancelled around here a few years back. We never get more than a dozen kids. I can't imagine this year will be any better. If the weather is nice, maybe I'll place a bowl on a stand just off the porch, and sit out there with my laptop.

My cousin's husband, who a few cities over sets up/runs a neighborhood haunted house/charity drive in their side yard, had to cancel it.

It's really too bad, given that this year Halloween is a Saturday with a full moon.

2020-10-04 7:12:00 PM
The neighbor kids are getting shaped glow wrist bands.   And we'll still probably decorate the yard, but the only official 'trick or treating' is for small kids at the park in the afternoon.  Too chilly at night here, anyway.

we have some really young ones in the neighborhood, so will mask up and give out candy.

Not buying much tho.

My town is distributing signs you can post if you prefer not to participate, otherwise it's business as usual.

I've decided to try to make some fun of it. I got my dog a dinosaur costume and I'm going to post a sign six feet from my door that says "Beware of dinosaur! Right the doorbell then return here to get treats."

The kids get candy, and I get to throw it at them.

I'm just waiting on a white jump suit for last bit of my costume. I already have a full set of the patches from the movie "Alien"...a green t-shirt...and a dildo with gogoly eyes as mister "chesty burster" .
One thing I really wasn't prepare for is that a dildo with googly eyes is Firkin Adorable looking, I mean it's like cue the Celine Dion music cute, just kind of peeking over the cardbox box in the craft room.

I live in a pretty red area, so I imagine locals will double down this year and make trick-or-treating mandatory.

2020-10-04 7:49:08 PM
In El Paso, we are going to do a Trunk-or-Treat, where you literally drive up with a trunk open and get candy dropped in the trunk.

/Totes plan on adding a raw shrimp to the cargo hold somewhere.

My derperville facebook news group has people posting things like "The gubbermint doesn't own Halloween!" Also telling people to put up blue jackolantern as secret code that trick-or-treating is allowed at that house.

I don't want to punish the kids. But I also don't want to expose myself to hundreds of kids who may be infected. I m also injured and slow.

I plan to buy treats and put then in a bucket with a sign telling how many to take.

El Lay cancelled it this year, so I'm sad.

I've been trying to figure out a way to be safe, but can't. Because no matter what I do, I know the kids will crowd around each other and might not wear masks.

I have never missed a Halloween.

So, I'm sad.

All I can tell is that its on a Saturday
Only kids in the neighborhood are the neighbors new baby and the other neighbors teenager
Unlikely anyone will knock on the door
But just in case the dog will get under her bed and bark until they leave

Based on the amount of Halloween decorations I've seen in my neighborhood, I'm assuming trick-or-treating is a go.  We, however, aren't participating.

I'm probably just going to slap a bowl of candy on the porch with a "take a bunch" sign on it. Door-to-door greetings of any kind are really not advisable, but no need to stop the yearly candy binge.
