The RCMP said members with the force's marine Shiprider program were patrolling along the marine border in the Southern Gulf Islands when they spotted a cabin cruiser out of Bellingham anchored in the Crescent Beach Channel near Blackie Spit.

Typical cops.

If it had been the other way around, she'd be in ICE custody in Arizona, and Georgia, and Michigan...probably for 3 or 4 years before she gets to see an attorney who will suggest she pleads guilty to 17 counts of terrorism and will only serve 45 years instead of life.

Come on, Canadians. Now is not the time to play the field. Now is the time to build our igloos and encyst ourselves inside for the winter. And what are we going to do with that guy's boat? Parking is hard enough to find in Surrey.

About 13 years ago, my Canadian ex had his cousin drop him off in the middle of the St. Lawrence River off of Brockville, ON. He swam the rest of the way to the US to be with his girlfriend. That worked for a few years. He was eventually caught. I think someone ratted him out. I still think he can't come back to the US.

Why did he not just legally cross over? There is a bridge about 5 miles up the road from Brockville.

For the romance, duh.

No wonder he used the St. Lawrence. If he crossed at Niagara Falls he would have to visit her in a barrel.

He illegally crossed and they didn't throw him in a death camp?   How uncivilized.

I think he overstayed his welcome in the US. At some point he returned to Canada. When he tried to get back to the US, he was denied. He tried numerous times to get back, but it was always a no. His cousin took his boat out and dropped him off in the river halfway between Canada and the US. Then, he swam the rest of the way. His false teeth fell out during the swim. So, that sucked.

As a side point, some of my best memories are going to Canadian Thanksgivings and other holidays at his cousins' house right on the St. Lawrence. It was one of those big, old houses. Good times.

So... Canada bars entry to people with a criminal record, which he well may have now since he illegally crossed the border during a shutdown. This little stunt may have made it a whole lot harder for him to see his girlfriend once the whole covid ordeal is behind us.

I grew up in the city next to Surrey. We had tons of jokes about Surrey Girl. What does a Surrey Girl do in the morning? She goes home. What's the difference between a Surrey Girl and a phone booth? It costs 25 cents to use the phone. The list went on. Of course I was too young at the time to get most of the jokes.

I remember those. What do you call a good looking girl in Surrey? A tourist. ...they go downhill from there.

It's a complete mystery why Canada would want to seal their southern border and stop Americans from trying to cross it.

Also, it's a wonderful irony that after years of right wing Americans claiming that asylum seekers coming from the south shouldn't be allowed in because they claim (incorrectly) that the asylum seekers bring diseases with them, that Canada has to seal their southern borders to prevent Americans bringing diseases with them across the border.
