And yet, cops ALWAYS seems to need to kill people. Maybe the cops should call the cops when they arrive?
What is wrong with all of you, Jesus Christ. In less than two months it's been proven a little old can subdue and apprehend a criminal without killing them.
We really need to retrain our police forces
The police should be able to do this too.

I fractured my ankle a few weeks ago, and ordered a bird-headed cane from Etsy because old people canes are just so hideous and boring. This one is very cool, and when it got here, I discovered it had a sword in it. No one is going to mess with me. I may just keep carrying it after my leg heals.

The cops actually shot the guy dead on the way to the squad car. Turned out he had a knife in his ass and had pulled it out to charge the cops running backwards with the knife in his hands cuffed behind his back.

Personally I think bartitsu needs to make a comeback to properly handle these ruffians.

To answer Mock, yes, gun canes were a thing. Single bullet IIRC.
To you both, there are some jurisdictions (again, IIRC) that make it a felony to just carry some hidden weapon, even though carrying the weapon itself might be legal.
Can't recall if this law was originally just worded that way to to get to the mafiosi or what.

Yes, you're correct about carrying a concealed weapon re: the sword cane. It's not exactly practical as a weapon because you have to unscrew the top. I am actually kidding about using it later, but one would never know from looking at it that it had a sword in it, so I'm not too worried in the short term.

They're called Sword-sticks in this Wikipedia article, and they're illegal in at least Arkansas and Cali.
Lightly touched upon legality of hidden weapons.

That level of concealed is a felony pretty much everywhere.  Anything that is a firearm or knife deliberately made to look like/incorporated into a non-weapon object, it's pretty impossible to argue any other purpose beyond "Surprise!" use.  Which pretty much no one wants in the hands of randos.

And yeah, cane guns were absolutely a thing.  Often air-guns, since powder explosions going on in a cane are not your friend.  Get out the bicycle pump before ya leave.

/no, these weren't "Ooh a BB gun"
//we're talking enough air pressure that inside 20'-30' they had about the same muzzle velocity as a powder gun
///since they were only made for "Surprise!" encounters, that was plenty
////also had sharpshooters back in the day with airguns - I believe it was Austria that piloted the idea - about 300 yards range which was fine for battlefield sniping in the 1800's

My mom had a period where she collected canes. Still has about 15-20. One of them was a sword cane that she got from a flea market or an antiques shop. It was enclosed nicely in black leather along its length and the tip and handle were steel or something.
It most surely did NOT need unscrewing. It was a well-fitted design that was just a pull top.
Don't know if she still has it or not. Haven't noticed it in a long while.

There's also the tricks you learn if you're on a cane for ages.  I don't know cane fu per se, but I do know a few ways to seriously wreck someone's weekend with a cane.  You have it in your hand, day in day out, for a decade or more, you start to see the potential.

That variety of air rifle did not last long in warfare, although they started using the idea several centuries before that, and a certain famous USian expedition used one to great effect: https://warfarehistorynetwork.com/2016/12/13/lewis-and-clarks-girandoni-air-rifle/

I've been doing a cane class for about 2 years, it's based in Kempo and when someone's not expecting to be hit by a senior who knows how to use one, it can leave quite an impression.

Yes!

I have one of their canes. It has a wider hook, a point at the end of the handle, and decorative little bumps running down the shaft; they look like the points running down a dragon's back and tail.

The wider hook is great for trapping an arm, a leg or the neck. The point on the handle is great for pressure points, and the ribs down the shaft can rake across a shin or collarbone or face.

Totally legal. You can even bring it along for air travel.
