(Anchorage Daily News)   Look, we know you're concerned that oil drilling might hurt polar bears, so we did extensive research and you'll be pleased to hear we won't be publishing it because it could interfere with oil drilling   (adn.com) divider line

Really wish an adult polar bear could be put in trumper U.S. Geological Survey Director James Reilly office to offer a rebuttal on the studyon why it doesn't count each polar bear den individually.

/going into Polar bear habit in Canada requires by rule and law a person in the party have a firearm

We had a glut of supply even before the Covid related drop in demand.  Why do we need to drill for more oil again?

Plus the polar bears are gonna migrate south or starve due to the melting ice floes so... win/win?

Polar bears are made of oil.

A few companies think they can make more money drilling for oil there or a few politicians want more grift.

Its because of all that coca-cola they drink on christmas.

It will interfere with those pipelines floating on permafrost, too.

It's the Trump administration. For all we know, they're upset by the study because it doesn't show drilling does enough harm to polar bears.

Coke is playing the long game.

Neat. So while you delay the results (and likely violate a few FOIA requests) we can put the whole idea on ice too until we see the report and make an informed decision at that time to (obviously) not continue the drilling plans.

Another Trump appointee, this time the head of the USGS.

The same guy who has been deleting mention of climate change from USGS press releases and who has banned his agency from using climate forecasts that extend beyond 2040.

I really hope Biden wins so he can purge these assholes.

Better off being ground up and used as crab bait , imho.  They do shoot bears that have a taste for human ( or subhuman in this case ) .

I have dealt with a few grizzly bears without a firearm (prefer with a prefer with  a 454 redhawk if needed)  but polar bears have no predator they know of.  There is no reasonable argument to be made a polar bear.

And by that I assume you mean like "the purge". Where anything anyone else does to these assholes is considered legal. (but since it's just these assholes, it's for a whole year, not one day.)

My point was - we would have one fewer bear, because I doubt they would let it live after he / she made a lunch out of Reilly.

I don't think we even need to find/drill for more oil.

Electric vehicles are coming and the demand for oil is going to seriously decline over the next 20 years. We'll still need it for plastics and other things, but the market for burning it in internal combustion engines is rapidly evaporating like harmful carbon emissions.

Right now we actually have more oil than we know what to do with, which makes drilling for more rather stupid.

But Reilly - a geologist by training and former astronaut - has questioned why it uses data collected by a former agency scientist now working for an advocacy group after quitting due to the President appointing secretaries antithetical to the agency's mission, the latest being an oil and gas lobbyist, and knowing that someone had to speak for the bears since, the agency has every intention of ignoring their work.

FTFH

So, putting oil and gas lobbyist in charge of the Department of the Interior is OK, but a putative global expert in the study of polar bears at the Department of the Interior leaving for another job involving the protection polar bears taints the study?
