Tillis goes any buys himself a polled pork sammich and claims victory.

Soooooooooooooooo much stupid.

I love BBQ, but holy f*cking Christ this is dumb.

2020-09-30 9:36:11 AM
Well that's farking stupid.  When I use the BBQ I am barbecuing. I am also grilling because I am using the grill on said BBQ.

But I'm not from North Carolina so this shiat isn't important to me.

Yeah my Twitter feed lit up when this happened.  BBQ and Grilling is serious business.  It's dumb, but if you grew up in NC you never call BBQ anything other than slow cooked pork.  Hot dogs and burgers are grilling.  Cal blew it.

of course I would never vote for TT though, no matter how much pandering Cal has done.

NC has no farking idea what BBQ sauce is, so I wouldn't expect them to know anything else about the process.

2020-09-30 10:58:17 AM
fwiw I think BBQ should be considered a noun and not a verb. You can eat or have BBQ, but the cooking action is actually smoking or grilling with indirect heat.

South gonna South.

Memphis doesn't need sauce to cover up a lack of taste, unlike that crap that passes for BBQ in NC or even worse, SC.

And really good BBQ is brisket and if brisket is done right it don't need no sauce!

2020-09-30 11:06:23 AM
Now, now, now.  We all know that Memphis style BBQ is the superior variety to any other in these great United States.

Texas Brisket?  Dry and overdone.
Carolina style?  The pig is good, but the sauce is weak with it just being vinegar.
KC is close to Memphis in taste in my opinion, but does top the God Tier that is Memphis.

Bow before you Memphis BBQ overlords!

The Barbecue thing is a joke, similar to calling anyone from north of Georgia or west of Texas a Yankee or arguing over whether Batman or Superman would win in a fight. Or playing the "who puts the hottest sauce on things" game.

Basically it's really funny until that one asshole turns up who is 100% serious, at which point everyone on every side of the joke debate tends to slowly back out of the room muttering about leaving the grill on.

Not actually countering your point, just pointing out that the people posturing about it aren't taking it truly seriously in any real sense either.

The only REAL BBQ is the kind which is common in the place where I was born and have never left.  The BBQ in all other places is inferior.

Also, the best Pizza comes from Eastern Carolina.  You haven't lived until you've had an authentic Tarboro slice.

Rodney Scott (the dude in the top left for the uninitiated) is probably the greatest pit master alive, but he's in SC not NC. Scott's BBQ in Hemingway is the stuff of legend. Eastern Carolina style, y'all. I've heard he opened a branch downtown C-town, though I can't speak to its flavor or authenticity to the original.

JAGChem82: Mr.Uncle.Bill: Yeah my Twitter feed lit up when this happened.  BBQ and Grilling is serious business.  It's dumb, but if you grew up in NC you never call BBQ anything other than slow cooked pork.  Hot dogs and burgers are grilling.  Cal blew it.

Mustard sauce is central and upstate SC. The chain store stuff (popularized by Bessinger's and Maurice's (who incidentally are all part of the same family, just split by their greed and racism)) is pretty crap, though there are a few places that have decent mustard-based sauces (Henry's Smokehouse has a good mustard-base). That said, the truly good stuff is Eastern Carolina (both NC and SC) which is basically a vinegar and hot-sauce mop on whole hog. Vinegar and pork are made for each other.  I really miss Carolina BBQ. I keep pushing the wife to let me open a whole hog Carolina style restaurant here in Japan (I'd actually probably do different regional styles Memphis dry rub ribs, Carolina vinegar pulled pork, Texas brisket, etc.).  It'd probably fold in a few months, but I'd be damn happy to eat what don't sell.

Funny how many people conveniently forget about dumbshiat like this.  BUT, remember people... There is always a tweet

1. Carolina BBQ is farking delicious. There's a place near where I live that has the most delicious vinegar-based sauce. I could put that shiat on everything. South Carolina BBQ is good too, and it's mustard-based.

2. Thom Tillis is a coont, and I will thoroughly enjoy voting for Cal Cunningham. I'm sick of all these assholes. Our General Assembly is a shiatshow as well, but fortunately, Gov. Cooper can somewhat keep them in line.

3. Voting straight-ticket Democratic never felt so good.

The entire region absolutely butchers the English language, but God Farkin' Forbid you say "bbq" when you're gonna grill something.

Because _that's_ important.

It's ridiculous.  And bullying us/them nonsense. And people who get worked up about it don't realize it just makes more glaring all the other ways they are ignorant and have never traveled outside their county nor read many books.

2020-09-30 11:18:13 AM
One Twitter critic wrote, "Fun fact: Carolina bbq means whole hog. You're grilling bro. Not even close to the same thing."

"He's grilling over gas? Is there time to get my absentee ballot back?" another joked.

Gah. Now I'm having flashbacks to having recently relocated to the wrong coast.

I particularly enjoyed the smug condescension calling out my using "bbq" when obviously the only correct answer duh is "grilling" *by some rando eating the food I was _giving_ them*...

... who then, of course, went on to Tell Me A Thing Or Two About Commiefornia That I Didn't Know, that he learned from Fox News.

Good times.

Who the hell in North Carolina said "We're having a barbecue"?

In North Carolina you make barbecue. If you're grilling for a crowd and the menu includes hot dogs, hamburgers, or anything else that's cooked over high heat, you're having a cookout.

At least that's the vernacular in North Carolina, anyway.

/oldest regional style of barbecue
//vinegar sauce predates the widespread use of tomatoes by European colonists by a century
///whole hog barbecue is older than Texas
