The Naked Gun made Jay Johnstone a Mariner for one day, batting leadoff against the California Angels. (Jay donned uniform #29 for it, digits he never wore as a major leaguer.)

If memory serves, he was the guy that hit a grand slam on the 4th of July, but was called out because he ran past the guy on first base who was tagging up.

I absolutely would have snapped the shutter if this was in front of my lens. Probably wouldn't put it on a baseball card, though...

...once sneaking into the manager's office and replacing Lasorda's beloved celebrity photos with pictures of himself and fellow players Jerry Reuss and Don Stanhouse.

That's good stuff.  Lasorda always struck me as an easy mark.

I think that would result in Runner 1 being called out, not the batter-runner. Sounds fascinating though; will scour the internet shortly.

The rules state that the runner that passed another runner is out.

Nope, the runner that passes is the one declared out.

Well, shiat. I've been away from the game for too long. Thank you and etoof.

I mean, the last game you watched probably still isn't over, what with how long they take these days.

That's too bad. He signed a card for a muuuch younger me back before a Giant's game (can't remember who he was playing for at the time).  And then I got many chuckles from his book a few years later.

Time marches on for us all... RIP

That man helped me through many a youth sports locker room based on his books. He was an inspiration And taught me great life lesson about how to keep it loose as life tries to grind you down. Hope he eventually found his Star Patrol helmet.
