I thought this was known before the article. I know I've already read about how Apprentice basically saved his disgusting ass and gave him this bullshiat mythos.

He's a reality TV president, which comes with all the fakeness that standard reality shows are rife with. Mark Burnett has plenty of blame in this as he gave the slimy conman a life preserver which propelled us to where we are now.

Tax records show that "The Apprentice" rescued Donald J. Trump, bringing him new sources of cash and a myth that would propel him to the White House.

So. Reality TV did actually destroy us. I'll be damned.

2020-09-28 10:03:57 PM
"What makes the world a safe place right now?" Mr. Burnett said. "I think it's American dollars, which come from taxes, which come because of Donald Trump."

What a farking loser.

I hope this reporting sways someone...  It doesn't sway me, because Trump's finances are somewhere around #36 in my list of reasons to vote against him.

2020-09-28 10:07:30 PM
Not as damning as yesterday. Seemingly stuff we would have mostly known.

Trump whoring out his name for anyone and everyone who wanted it is pretty on-brand for him

2020-09-28 10:08:30 PM
The same way he faked his way through everything else in life: privilege, bullying, and bullshiat.

2020-09-28 10:08:54 PM
Mark Burnett might be my 2nd most hated person in the world right now.

With a grand finale on November 3.

Still waiting for the two stories we were promised for years: tax evasion rather than mere avoidance; the evidence that he is being paid by Russians.

Obviously a real estate investor would have low, or even negative, income. Real estate is a business with write-offs and debts that mean land-rich owners file negative earnings for many years.

As for being paid by Russians...Sure it would take a lot of forensic accounting, but since 2016, the whole problem with Trump as a bought-and-sold mobster and Russian puppet, is that his tax returns were necessary to make the final connection between him and laundered money.

Come on, let's see the real point of this exercise.

2020-09-28 10:10:15 PM
He also recorded voice-overs for an online game that was part of an All sweepstakes, in which a tiny digital version of Mr. Trump did laundry and squawked one-liners like, "The Donald can do the work of 40 dry cleaners!"

How could I have wasted so much time playing Civ when I could've been playing the tRump laundry game?!?

In response to a request for comment, a White House spokesman, Judd Deere...

This man has a brother named John, this I absolutely know without even checking. I also know Judd is insanely jealous of John because of his moniker.

Look, i came here to biatch about paywalls on decent journalism like a whiny titty baby who inherited a ton of money from my dad and blew it all, only to have to be bailed out by some shiatty reality show and ushered into the presidency.

That is my Drew given right as a farker and you robbed me of that.

Good thing we have things like ESRB to save us from teh nudity while micro-transactions are everywhere and Trump exists because whats the worst that could happen, it's just a tv show.  Those can't be bad for adults.

Fair enough. That is a huge difference. Still wondering wtf my ballot is. Of course i didn't check thw mail today. Even if it doesn't come I'll crawl over broken, covid infected glass to push those buttons and check the printed version before pressing the vote button. Couldn't they just put a slot machine lever on the digital machines?

Fox today barely mentioned it but they explained it all away as Trump being smart for doing all he could to not pay taxes and Amazon didn't pay any taxes either. It really is remarkable how your choice of media can actually determine what planet you are living on.

Whoever invented reality tv and those who made it popular need to be indicted on charges of crimes against humanity.

Step up, Simon Fuller (American Idol), John de Mol Jr. (Big Brother), Elise Doganieri/Bertram Van Munster (The Amazing Race) and Charlie Parsons (Survivor).

You doomed humanity.

I think AFV really was the birthplace of reality tv. It was funny for a while but you could see the transition towards Jackass far earlier than Jackass was even a sperm of an idea.

We generally knew the story but the NYT piece puts dollar valuation on everything so you can see what he earned doing what, and what he's spent on what, and what he's borrowed against what.. I found that interesting and it connected some dots for me.

What this did make me wonder is what's next for him if he's not re-elected (or arrested). It sure looks like the rumor of his own media empire will be the next logical step. Easy for him to get into and with a built in audience of ~50 million gullible morons, and plenty of opportunities for funding from unscrupulous and probably untraceable sources.
