You can use the box as an emergency backup

Why the cardboard box for each mask? Seems like an awful waste of shipping volume for something that offers little (if any) additional protection.

And to save you the argument about the little plastic band tensioners, they could be "pre installed" on the elastic before the protective sleeve goes on.

I don't think I want a mask designed by computer scientists and computer engineers.

It's the Apple Way. Over engineer and already established product, play sit in Packaging that is far and above what is needed and then market it to people who think that it is superior simply because it says Apple on the side and designed in Cupertino on the the inside, knowing that it has been assembled by Southeast Asian wage slaves.

Other companies are similarly guilty of the wage slave portion but apple fans tend to be much more sanctimonious about it.

good news! the "apple mask" wasn't designed by "computer scientists and computer engineers",
Apple has an entire devision for life sciences/medical research etc. they have input in a whole manner of things including ergonomics. A company that has over $190 Billion dolllars of cash at its disposal can afford to hire people with the correct skillsets to do this shiat right.

also... the packaging isn't cardboard, its just thick paper. 100% recycled paper.

/got an email last week that our Austin campus is starting "phased" reopenings soon for some departments.
frankly since the Cafe will remain closed, I'd rather stay working from home for the time  being. as cool as it would be to be issued some Apple masks ...I'd like to avoid having to wear one all day.
// the daily temp checks and other screenings will be fun as well I'm sure.

having worked in Corp. IT for over 22 years, I've seen all kinds of packaging for computers and electronics...and the Apple standard may seem "over designed" but in reality its pretty clever in most cases as it uses just enough materials to do the job. unbox a typical Dell laptop then unbox ANY Apple product and you can see how much excess wasteful crap most companies use.
also unbox a Dell or other non Apple laptop...like an HP... then try putting it back in the box... its normally a huge pain in the ass.

now try reboxing a Macbook...and behold everything still fits. and you can ship it as is with no worry of the equipment being damaged.  as I've had to do thousands of times.

its not "apple fan boy" is respect for solid engineering.

the only complaint I've had is when I've had to ship a macbook to someone and include the multiple dongle adapters with it... I normally have to cut an opening in the bottom of the box, shove the dongles in, then tape it up.

Technically its more complicated than every cloth reusable mask you can buy right now simply due to the adjusters on the ears and the double pinch points

Ah, that makes more sense--missed it in TFA. I'd imagine it makes for easy distribution to the employees who work a forty hour week.Five masks per box, one mask per day.

This is some poor phrasing - it seems to imply that you support slave labor, but only at slave labor prices - seems like an odd hill to die on.  WHAT DO WE WANT?  PRICES THAT REFLECT ACCURATELY THE LABOR CONDITIONS OF THE WORKERS THAT MAKE MY CONSUMER ELECTRONICS!  WHEN DO WE WANT THEM?  NOW!

You could probably buy 50 surgical masks for what the Apple five-pack costs.

Shrug. They make overpriced computers that kinda work. Everyone else makes cheap-to-overpriced computers that barely work at all. Soon as someone else gives me "kinda works" for cheaper, I'm out.

Yeah, moron, I buy Samsung for electronics for example, because they are made in South Korea and pay their labor.

that is generally more of an issue of your cel network than the phone.
for example...a phone on AT&T in NYC will get shiat for signal...but a phone on Verizon in NYC will work fine.
