Does anyone think Facebook can survive without it? I'm not optimistic.

Launched in 2009, FarmVille was the first big social gaming sensation, filling Facebook feeds around the globe with requests for seeds and water and other virtual bullshiat needed to make players' pixelated farms look all pretty.

The hardcore gamers at Fark Dot Com would never be caught dead playing a crappy life simulator. But why this thread is now about Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley, I have no idea.

The once-ubiquitous farming simulation was so popular that it was once of the main reasons behind Kotaku Social, a short-lived semi-spin-off that my editor-in-chief Stephen Totilo put me in charge of back in 2012. I had to post FarmVille tips, you guys. It was hell.

I love it when the journos just out-and-out admit their job is a waste of human resources.

My mother still plays. She complains about it all the time as she's obligated to harvest my Aunt's crops too. She'll be relieved yet devastated.

"Waste of human resources" is pretty much the definition of Gawker media in general.

We call it "pulling the needle".  There's a sense of angst about what life will be like after you've finally kicked the addiction, but then an overwhelming sense of freedom and peace floods over you and you can't understand why you ever put so much stock in it in the first place.  This continues until the new-found freedom leads to a sense of boredom and prompts you to find another vice with which to fill the hole.

Without Flash, my zombo.com infrastructure will cease functioning.

I guess we've finally reached something that can't be done at zombocom

It jumped the shark when they made you go from one farm to multiple farms all at once. And it was to keep up with.

Adobe was annoying when you had to update it.

Glad to see that covered.

Heh, I was watching American Dad last week and one episode had Stan saying "Huh, got an email from Facebook. Apparently I'm the last person playing Farmville. I guess I won!"

It's been replaced by Gardenscapes, where you pull pins out of a structure to dodge lava and sharks in your irrigation canals.

had an acquaintance buy a new MacBook Pro. within hours, fell for the "update flash to see this porn" thing.  long story short, OS X makes it really easy to wipe your drive and reinstall the os.

Zynga, the creator of Farmville, can DIAF.

Anytime a company goes IPO and tells their non-executive employees "Give back all your stock options or you're fired. Take us to court if you don't like it." - just gross.

my brother was their director of payment processing for a few years. I was so ashamed. now he works at twitch, and I'm slightly less ashamed, yet still very ashamed.
