Meanwhile, I've had some days where I've looked to moving north, to Maine or upstate New York, to areas that have several decades of decent climate left and living an 18th century-style life.  It would be hard but it would be better than continuing to feed into all of this.

Hey, when Minneapolis hits a year-round Mediterranean climate, you can come stay at my place on the beach. We'll hang out, have a bonfire, maybe purify ourselves in Minnetonka Ocean while surfing some killer tubes. It'll be rad.

No matter were you go on the planet someone will always be looking for you to pay them for simply being there.

We call that freedom.

One conspiracy theory:

Chinese scientists and politicians understand the future track we are on and have decided to do the only thing that can be done: eliminate as much of the human race as possible. Covid was a trial run to see how the world responds and to estimate the effectiveness of the real run. They then create a super virus, and along side it, its vaccine, then unleash the virus to the world. A select population is given the vaccine ahead of time, and voila, no moar 'merica and a lot of other countries. Instant "Green New Deal".

/ probably read it in a novel somewhere

That's some theory.  How does it mesh with the "it's a hoax" theory?  I mean do the same people believe both on different days?

also, FTFA  It's going to take centuries for the climate to stabilise after whenever our greenhouse gas emissions stop. Our greenhouse gas emissions are never going to stop until we're all dead.

Society is perfectly capable of mitigating damage and limiting us to what we believe will happen given ~2.5C warming.  It'll be shiatty for everyone and potentially devastating to hundreds of millions of poor brown people in poor nations.  But it won't be anywhere near the worst case scenario.

Society won't probably though because so many individuals are such absolute coonts that they refuse to modestly change the way they go about life, actually believing that chintzing in the present is going to magically preserve the future for their own progeny.

Those people are perfectly willing to kill off their own bloodlines, despite claiming that they're doing everything they can to preserve such.  They make absolutely no sense and should all have to die first because they deserve it the most.

Oh you got me. That's why Hatusha is in the middle of farking nowhere. Oh and the people that migrated south to cause problems for the Republicans in Rome. Do you know what happens to irrigated land that does not get that same precipitation it has had in the past? Countless empires tell that tale. Spend a couple thousand more hours into history and you may notice the pattern of the demise if empires. Climate change always seems to be at the root. Starving children are hard to ignore.

Cheer up though. At least your grandchildren won't speak English as their primary language. So you have that going for you. Which is nice.

Relatively stable and relatively slow rate of change are the terms that should be kept in mind. Currrent rates of change and instability are far far greater than the changes you're talking about. What you're talking about should give you an idea of the potential impacts - if past, relatively small changes could contribute to bringing down empires, what will be the cost of the much larger spike we're currently undergoing?

You don't understand what has and is happening. Take some time from the emotion.

I only attacked the outlandish claim that there has ever been stability of climate. The word "stable" is a problem. It is suggestive and leading. It is not a useful term term and illustrated what Noam Chomsky has asserted towards the usage of language for so long.

It is useless as a term for anything other than propaganda. Which we are dancing around. The freaking Sumerians got wrecked by climate. We buried their history. We think we are superior to them. Our hubris is so disgusting. Their surviving documentation mirrors the same exact problems we have thousand if years later. We. Learned. Nothing.

Attacking the use of a word is not the correct usage of the supposedly "Greek" term of ad hominem or to use the current us english vernacular, "straw man." Btw, Dorathy was evil to selfishly murder the two witches. It was a Greek as hell turn if events though.

Yeah, I suspect you do not fully understand the methodology of the illustrations if the math behind the graph you find a killing stroke to our requires indictment for our selfish sins. There is some new analysis of climate pattern you may wish to look into that demonstrate more chaotic climate patterns than the normalized graphs you are aware of. With the needed respect I will endeavour to document the analysis i have suggested in future threads.

Besides the ridiculous number of humans on the planet currently it does seem that we all should bear the burden of our current survival. However, it seems a priori. Why should we be permitted to survive?

Magnificent beasts once roamed in total harmony on this rock. We put their remains in our machines with absolutely no respect or thought at all so we can live our insanely easy life and sit back and criticize others.

Hey, buck up Sparky. It's not all doom and gloom. We can blame all the current problems on one guy. The next guy will bring all the harmony that you seek. Just like Obama did. Oh wait...
