It's China--once you've had a pandemic, you're just going to want another one a few months later.

Even 2020 is tired of 2020. Just recycling scripts from previous seasons now, thinks we won't notice.

Maybe we're all witnessing the peak of our civilization and we're just now starting the fast downhill run.
Scary, but what an awesome time to be alive to see it.

The Bubonic plague has never gone away.
It is prevented by proper sanitation and pest control.
People are infected all the time, an average of 7 people a year in the US.
We just know how to treat it now.

@ Alarmists: A simple round of antibiotics handles it. Just stay away from rodents.

Probably use bat soups to cure it

This usually happens earlier in the year. I guess the lockdown delayed it.

The Black Death killed a lot of people because, well, the thoughts and prayers do nothing.

Science, on the other hand, is relatively effective, and as such, the Black Plague doesn't run riot through populations anymore.

Although, I wonder about the future.

Depends if the religious anti-science crazies take over the country since they are obviously trying very hard.

FTFA: In May 2019, a couple in Mongolia died of plague after eating the raw marmot kidney, which is considered to be a good remedy for good health in traditional Chinese medicine.

Well, it worked.

As a liberal, I will be SO triggered if they all give themselves bubonic or pneumonic plague.

/The last outbreak in the US was apparently in 1924

So COVID life cycle will probably be 2-3 years depending on vaccine.  Yup, 2024 sounds about right for another round of "What Can Mother Nature Cook Up Today?". Give a year break in between for complacency to set in, then WHAMO, BLAM, OOOF!

call me vain, but if the cure is wearing a water bottle on my head, i may have to consider sticking with the plague instead.

i don't want to look foolish.
plus, y'know, my rights.

I may be remembering this wrong but although we know about bubonic plague and an event called the black death, we still aren't 100% sure that one was the cause of the other.

There are actually 10,000 people infected with the bubonic plague.  People's media is just releasing that this 1 boy has it.
