If only Picard were at the helm today.

I was so excited waiting for the show. Pilot was OK. And then I saw the teaser for an episode where boy genius Wesley saves the universe. And I remembered I had homework to do and usenet to read.  A few years later I read a copy of the writer's guide and thought to myself, it would be nice if the show's writers had read it.

My father's day present this year was a Cameo from John de Lancie. Not directly because of Star Trek... I watched the Ayreon Electric Castle concert blu-ray with my kids, and they thought his narration was awesome (and then they figured out he is Discord from My Little Pony).

It might be my favorite present ever.

If only Q had been able to take down the Deep Federation.

Q wasn't a conspiracy theorist.

The episode when he introduced Picard and his crew to the Borg was brilliant. The Borg during that show was terrifying and unstoppable.

Well, there was the aborted multi-episode arc about the bugs taking over the federation.

I was always disappointed they never revisited that storyline/race.

The nostalgia tends to go mullets, synth-pop and neon, but that one was so quintessentially 80s.

That episode was the War of the Worlds TV show meets HBO's V meets Contra the video game meets Alien.

The best part is I was a seven-year-old kid watching that and thought it was SO COOL while both of my parents were like, "This is Satan coming through the TV"

I thought I read somewhere they thought about tying that in on Voyager with Species 8472.
Also recall reading they had initially had the Borg as insects (whole hive-mind thing) but the FX budget just wasn't there.

They got delightfully gory with exploding Ramsay in that finale episode. That was right on par with Lost Ark face melting, right there.

Q was great. What other "villain" is going to hook you up this well?

If you could read Riker's mind, it probably is going something like this "Stay cool old man, keep those warp engines from engaging.... maneuvering thrusters only"

To make sure it wouldn't melt kids' minds they subjected the VFX guy's own son to the test footage. He immediately demanded an exploding Remmick action figure so they figured they were good to go.

Picard kept getting harrassed by Q.

Sisko took care of it once and never had to deal with him again.

And Janeway had to deal with a hostile workplace.

I'm on another run though of ST:TNG (Just starting season 2).
I can't wait for the next season of The Orville. That show is awesome.

It was much better once Rimmer got his hard light emitter.

Thanks! Since my kids specifically mentioned that show, his Cameo to me was him talking about his experience. Basically his agent said something like "oh, and you have an offer to go to the Netherlands and narrate a rock concert, but I can't imagine you'd want to do that." To which he pretty much said "Hold on. I'm pushing seventy and have never done a rock show before. When will I get another chance? Sign me up!"

That's just an awesome attitude for someone at that point in their career.

I remember Riker says "I don't need your fantasy women!" and I was like, "Well, duh, you have the holodeck."

Would have hated to be on the holodeck cleaning crew

I remember an interview where Wil complained about something similar.  He said one of the show's writers attended a convention panel where the topic was something like, "Why everyone hates Wesley" and Wil's reaction was, "You! You're the reason!"

And then along comes Voyager and suddenly the Borg becomes the galaxy's whipping boy.
