Some enterprising arduino programmer needs to design a tracking system that can identify cameras and hit it with a low power laser. Bye bye video feed.

You could probably hide several cameras in there.

Sure.  That's just what they want you to believe.

If I ran Area 51 I would be building hangars in the shape of flying saucers or the starship Enterprise. None of this box nonsense.

So a large hanger means drone swarms, and not storage for very large aircraft?

The sand people walk in single hangars to hide their true numbers...

The article covers this quote well. It's a large hanger with lots of small bays.  Assembly line style to process lots of drones quickly in stages.

If a democracy gives cutting lasers to a drone swarm, that is our extinction event. :(

Well...its at the soopersekrit base in the desert, so of COURSE it has to be drone associated.

Sheese!!!! Look, wear the extra heavy duty tin foil hat-which reflects teh lasers beams back up to them and then will destroy teh drones. Like fast. Or a mirror. Lots of mirrors.

I get it, the article makes sense and is I guess plausible, but isn't it all just speculation? I mean, we have more than enough things to worry about right now without resorting to speculation and conjecture. Our douche canoe is full at the moment.

Killer drones aren't new.  The home made one on youtube with the pistol slung underneath was the 2nd Amendment at it's finest.

If i controlled Area 51 I'd spend a few tens of thousands to build a new giant hangar there every few years to keep all the UFO and conspiracy nutters focused on it...
then do all my actual secret research somewhere else.

inb4 THATS WHAT THEY WANT YOU TO THINK!!!!!

Attach some large hunks of c4 to each, and you have some precision remote bombs.  Just have to find a way to make them quieter.  Add some "pepper" spray and/or canisters and you can hit up or drop them inside groups of rioters from a distance without having to launch a projectile.  Plus getting more facial scans of course.  Interesting possibilities that surely wouldn't be used against the general public.

Not sure why this is funny. This idea alone could save hundreds of millions of dollars. But it is only paper money and will never be spent on roads or health care.

Shiate it could be spent on ice cream sandwiches. At least I would have a buy in.

Gawker not withstanding this is a good thoughtful writer even though he knows that clickbait pays the bills.

The Chair Force just announced last week that they had already built and flown a technology demonstrator for future fighter programs.  I would place my bets that this could be a new production facility that can crank out new computer designed programs much faster than conventional (or even lean Skunk works) type programs.  The shape of the building does suggest something more production based, not operational where you are bringing in/out aircraft routinely.

I'm one step ahead of you. I've been doing all my spying on Area 52
