This isn't a coy dig at anyone. They actually think that they are the good guys. That's the scariest part of this nightmare; the monsters think they are the heroes.

There was an NPR story recently where they interviewed an activist in Zimbabwe who was standing on the corner with a protest sign with her friend and they were both thrown into a vehicle by the state police and held without bail on charges of inciting violence. They were eventually let go pending her court date.

I mean...

I don't know why we have to import our police state over-reach stories these days. We've got plenty at home to focus on.

Oh yeah, this is directed at the UN (the UN General Assembly opened in NY last week). They're lecturing people in our name right now and calling them evil.

This shiat is scary.

One of the worst things about Trump is that he's barreling towards making the moral equivalencies true.

Was Pompeo looking in the mirror when he was reading that statement?

One of the next worst things about Trump is that it's turning Republicans into historical revisionists who trade in moral equivalencies, it's no longer just the Communists.

One of the worst things about Trump is when people from other countries who lived through authoritarian regimes with petty dictators are saying they recognize all the same shiat Trump is pulling on us right now.

"Normal states do not violently suppress legitimate protests, jail their own citizens or those of other countries on specious charges, engage in torture, and impose severe restrictions on fundamental freedoms."

trump states do.
christian states do.
Perhaps some trump worshiping christian can tell me how their religion is not a religion of hate without lying about it.

True Christians must be up in arms about how trump worshipers have hijacked their religion.
Oh, look!  They haven't.  They still accept that trump worshipers are part of their group.
They are all the same.

I hate Twitter because I read the "@Pompeo" part and assumed the rest of the statement was written by someone else inside State shiatting on the his hypocrisy and was all "Damn, even his people are sick of his shiat."

Dear State Department Twitter Guy: I am proud of you for this moment of self-reflection. Let's make sure we do better as a nation, starting in November.

Ok I don't spend much time on twitter so i am having trouble figuring out what is going on here? Is this a rogue post indicting the actions going on in our borders by highlighting the similarities to a nation we consider "evil." Or did some one post this in all seriousness attacking a foreign nation for things we are seeing domestically without seeing the hypocrisy?

That's why many philosophers throughout the ages stated that self doubt was one of the wisest things a person could feel.

Usually those who go through life 100 percent certain that what they're doing is good and true, withought ever pausing to question their actions and motives, tend to be the most destructive.

After looking over the report, I have to agree that there was absolutely no sense of irony or self-awareness on the part of those driving the creation and promotion of the final draft of this report. It can be difficult to discern the true believers who have deluded themselves into thinking they are the good guys from the hollow cynics who find that it's far easier to get away with things if they just sell themselves as such. Despite this, I'd say that the distribution of Trump administration political appointees has trended strongly towards the latter over time as the whims of the president inevitably end up conflicting with any set of strongly-held beliefs that don't exclusively involve the benefit of the president. We saw this with John Bolton and Don McGahn. Trump has been the litmus paper revealing that much of the apparent zealotry of the Republican party ideology was a facade.I don't think we are dealing with monsters who think they are doing the work of heroes as much as monsters who have grown comfortable through their own monstrous behavior. I find that scarier.

Thanks.  For the 2-for-1 deal, it's Iran they want to imitate in any takeover.  The left's general obsession with Nazis is not only a tired trope, it's misleading in a very bad way.  Theocracies are much scarier than secular authoritarian regimes.  Why build secretive death camps when you can just work out of the soccer field & maybe sell some tickets?

... the Nazis weren't a "secular authoritarian regime." For fark's sake, "Gott mit uns" (God is with us) was effectively the motto of the Third Reich.

The Nazis used everything that was convenient. There is way more evidence for Nazi intents to destroy religion than there is that they were Christian. Think of how they were content to be labeled socialist. Their behavior wasn't, and they had plenty of writing and speeches that either said they weren't or stated definitions of socialism that had nothing to do with socialism or even economics.

"National Socialism and Christianity are irreconcilable." - Martin Bormann, 1941

"The National Reich Church of Germany categorically claims the exclusive right and the exclusive power to control all churches within the borders of the Reich: it declares these to be national churches of the German Reich."

"The National Church is determined to exterminate irrevocably... the strange and foreign Christian faiths imported into Germany in the ill-omened year 800."

"The National Church has no scribes, pastors, chaplains, or priests, but National Reich orators are to speak in them."

"The National Church demands immediate cessation of the publishing and dissemination of the Bible in Germany..."

"The National Church shall clear away from its altars all crucifixes, bibles, and pictures of saints."

"On the day of its foundation, the Christian Cross must be removed from all churches, cathedrals, and chapels... and it must be superseded by the only unconquerable symbol, the swastika."

- Alfred Rosenberg, Reichsleiter, commissar for the supervision of intellectual and ideological education of the NSDAP

They said they were whatever label they thought would make them appealing, but defined the label differently than you did.

Payback is coming.

Read Revelation 17 and 18. America and her lying "christians" will all be exposed and destroyed.

The NUMBER ONE reason that God will utterly destroy America is because of how they have distorted who God really is.

Nitpick time: While I know he'd be dumb enough to do so, you can't staple a report and then feed it into a shredder, the staple will jam the shredder.
