Benevolent Misanthrope: The lawsuit, filed by the Oregon Justice Resource Center on behalf of the plaintiffs, seeks damages for assault, battery, negligence and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

It accuses Swinney of injuring and menacing multiple people in the streets, as police officers stood by and watched.

How are the police not co-defendants in every goddamn case like this?

F*cking pigs.

Because the Portland police department is a terrorist organization.

In that video they state their main goal was to get the national guard involved.

The only way to force the national guards hand was causing violence and rioting.

They literally admit they were there to start enough shiat to get the national guard activated.

This is literally what they accuse antifa for.

When are they going to get charges? Oh wait, the cops take free blowies from these guys. Nevermind.

Artist: TomDooley: Bear_of_Arkona: HerptheDerp: Considering that the police won't actually protect the people from assault if you wear the American flag as a pair of shorts and own a truck, this is probably the next best option.

Still, I think if you see a man waving a long gun around, you should dial 911 and tell them he's threatened to shoot you and is aiming his gun at people. After Rittenhouse, call the cops on any wannabe paramilitary soldier who thinks they have a righteous cause.

The cops are usually standing just feet away watching the assaults happen and do nothing. Calling 911 will do nothing.

The call will be logged.  That's something.  Granted not a lot.  But does allow offer some data for later analysis.

Data on how to ignore these kind of calls? Philly's 911 years ago was awful. One operator recognized my voice, laughed and hung up on me. Now, thing is, I was living in the Frankford section, which is bat shiate insane for drugs, violence shootings and general mayhem. So, I thought it was my civic duty to call 911 when I saw people getting the snot beat outta them. 911-weeellll....not so much. Meh, I called Frankford hospital's ER department, and gave 'em the heads up, they usually sent an ambulance.

Yes.  Data on how the calls are ignored.  It's harder for the City Council to ignore evidence showing out of 1000 calls for violent crime from a low income area officers only responded to 10.  While it's easy for them to ignore angry poor citizens saying calling 911 is useless as the cops never come.  They'll just tell you to call 911.

Sarah Iannarone, running against Ted Wheeler, outlined some pretty great ideas on Twitter for how we should be handling situations like these.  We should already be doing it, and that we have to even have a conversation about it to begin with is really depressing.

Bear_of_Arkona: I wonder how many of the Little Boys have warrants for their arrests but feel safe to come out anyways. If I lived there would love to print out the warrants and have them posted all over the place before everything started.

The local cops won't do anything about it. From the rally on August 22nd:

https://www.oregonlive.com/portland/2020/08/downtown-portland-braces-for-opposing-rallies-at-noon-saturday-live-updates.html

'Tusitala "Tiny" Toese was seen at the Saturday protest. The right-wing activist who is known for brawling at Portland protests was barred in January from participating in future city demonstrations for the next two years. He was also sentenced to two years' probation and 80 hours of community service after he pleaded guilty to third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, for his role in a violent altercation prompted by political differences. Court records appear to show an arrest warrant remains out Toese on an alleged probation violation. A Multnomah County Circuit Court hearing set for Aug. 27 on the alleged probation violation was canceled, according to court records.'

He was not arrested, detained or escorted away from the demonstrations, even though by court order he wasn't legally allowed to be there. The local cops don't care as long as you're a right-wing thug.

The local cops there are a disgrace, and I have very low opinion of cops to begin with. But looking him up they did arrest him 7 days later on his warrant I think due to him joining the demonstrations.

Oh you got that right. Then, come election year, and for a few months the cops are around, stuff is cleaned up, political types suddenly remember that whole neighborhoods exist outside of City Hall and show up to look like they "care". F' 'em.
The Philly DA department had issues-not sure if they were underfunded, overworked or didn't care-it was routine that the Feds would have to come in and finish cases, clean up case messes, or do more thorough case work investigations.

From your link: "We clearly state, once again, that law enforcement do not want or need any help from paramilitaries or vigilante groups. Any claims by paramilitary groups that they are helping state, county, or local law enforcement are false and dangerous, intended only to suggest that their unlawful activities are legitimate. We will pursue all available legal options to respond to this unlawful activity in partnership with Oregon's state government.

I hope someone remembered to tell local law enforcement this, otherwise they'll follow their usual routine of enabling and supporting the violence.

True, but driving them all into bankruptcy would still be fun.

Which is why usually they would not be sued.  You can't find an attorney to take your case. But by getting the Oregon Justice Resource Center to take the case, that barrier is removed.  And who knows, maybe one day one of them will hit the lottery.

[A1]  The main difference is what gay guys and just queer people overall are willing to think of as a "sexual act", anal is simply one page from an encyclopedia of playbooks. Straight people with little imagination and a conservative upbringing only see sex as "foreplay and penetration", because that's what mainstream media convinces us what always happens in the bedroom between two consenting adults, regardless of each one's gender. Its not just sex either, its been a thing since the 90s or earlier about non-queers trying to apply the "heterosexual household model" to a gay couple, always asking, "so which one of them wears the pants in the relationship?" as if the gays must play by the exact same societal rules as everyone else. Its ridiculous.

Judges have some leeway, they can suggest creative means of compensation. What business is it of yours? If they are rioting as you claim then just harming the local area.' Until the marching comes to your little Podunk town then you have a reason of concern.

Of the three people named, one lives in Texas, one lives in Eugene (probably thinks UO is an evil Libby lib indoctrination place) and one is from a county whose entire population is less than the two towns I live on the line of with 9x the land, whose claim to fame is not require masks for POCs, They ship their derp in to cause trouble for the cops to have to deal with, and somehow the cops think the OT pay is worth it.
