I would add one more item, which is pumpkin bread. Otherwise, yes, you are quite correct.

Golden Brown Delicious: I would add one more item, which is pumpkin bread.

Pumpkin bread doesn't need pumpkin spice to be good. And it has actual pumpkin in it, which none of the pumpkin spice products (other than pumpkin pie) do.

Also, cats love pumpkin. Mix it in with their food and they go nuts. But it has to be 100% pure pumpkin. None of this spice shiat. Which just proves, once again, cats are smarter than most people.

Get rid of cloves and ginger. Bring in allspice.

Also ice cream. And tea. And cheesecake. Pumpkin cheesecake with a chocolate cookie crust, but not too sweet.

I remember having "Christmas spice" at work.  Smelled like oatmeal cookie, and almost tasted as good as it smelled.  I like pumpkin spice, but it needs competition.  And nobody really wanted the pumpkin spice coffee.

i had the MOST delicious "pumpkin spice pretzels" from the publix deli area.

they were classic small crunchy "white chocolate dipped" snacking pretzels, but with pumpkin pie flavor in the (pastel orange) coating. SO yummy!

nothing is wrong with some things tasting like pumpkin pie, or simply like cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, and/or allspice, it just has to be rational.

if you wouldn't sprinkle it with cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, etc. from a shaker at the table DO NOT "pumpkin spice-ify" it.

You're joking, right?

You know pumpkin spice isn't pumpkin flavored don't you?

Also, the best pumpkin product:

That is literally what I said. Pumpkin bread has pumpkin in it, pumpkin spice does not.

I see that pumpkin spice is bringing out the best in my fellow Farkers.

We make pumpkin cookies and pumpkin bread, and pumpkin custard, in  addition to the best pie, which is pumpkin.  However, we use no pumpkin in any of these products. It's all butternut squash.

/I grew some 3 footers this year.

When my youngest daughter left Star of the Sea school after her 9th year there was much weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth amongst the faculty when it was realized that nobody was going to be bringing in Mrs. Spldng's homemade punkin muffins ever again.

A bit of plain, boiled pumpkin mashed into their gooshy food is also great for constipated cats. Moves things right along.

Here's the recipe from the site I stole the picture from. https://prettysimplesweet.com/pumpkin-muffins/ It doesn't appear to differ greatly from the stuff my wife baked. I did mention this thread to her and her comment was 'allspice.' You may wish to experiment with the recipe.

My youngest left that school back in 1998 and my wife hasn't made chocolate or pumpkin muffins in many years now. She started sending in baked goods to the school with so that if there was a party, our oldest daughter (lotsa food issues) would have a) something she could eat and b) something good she could share. This just turned into a 14 year long tradition.

i don't know, my homemade pumpkin bread would probably be bland as hell without adding ANY spices. plain, unsweetened, unsalted, unbuttered, unspiced pumpkin mash sounds pasty and nasty....

even savory pumpkin raviolis are seasoned with brown butter and sage.

i always UP the spices in pumpkin sweets, spice cake, carrot cake, apple cake, molasses cookies, etc. i enjoy the warm spiciness very much.

Pumpkin is gross and needs confectioner's sugar-saturated cream cheese to be palatable.  Pumpkin Roll reigns supreme and literally everything else is disgusting.

Needlessly Complicated: Apple pie spice > pumpkin spice

I think you are correct, and it is also part of why pumpkin spice is so seasonal despite how far we've moved from relying on the seasons for produce.

I like seasonal flavor shifts. I like summer bbq and grilling, and I like the mint chocolate combos come Xmas time.

There us a limit to pumpkin stuff. Pies? Best pies in the world. Donuts? Yup great seasonal donut. Bread? Yup great stuff. Cake? Sure. Anything else pass.

Green Pumpkin Pie
preheat oven to 425

a smallish green pumpkin (~4-5 lbs)
3/4 cup brown sugar (or maple if you have it)
about 1 tbs pumpkin pie spice
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar (can sub with cider or juice if needed)
1 tablespoon butter

put bottom crust into 8 inch pie pan
quarter and seed the pumpkin
pare away the outer rind
slice the pumpkin meat like you would apples for an apple pie
put the sugar and spices in the bottom crust, fill with the green pumpkin
pour the vinegar over it all, then the butter on top.
place the top crust and crimp edges
bake 425 for 15 min, then reduce to 350 and bake for another 40 min.

And that, folks is my grandmother's best pumpkin spice recipe. It was totally
worth dealing with butchering the pumpkin.

Meh.  Literally all their spices look the same barring the name on the label and actual product color variation, which isn't a lot in grained/powdered stuff.  A jar of ginger looks just as close.
