GOP Senators; By making a sci-fi tv show based on a book by an author that supports China's bigoted and suppressive policies you are doing a bad thing.

Also GOP Senators; It is fine that any US company can manufacture in China to avoid higher US labor cost and increase profits.

If he still lives in China, I'm not sure what people expect him to say in public other than being supportive of the Chinese regime. It's not like the Chinese people are protected by some sort of freedom of speech principle - they aren't free to criticize their government like we generally are.

I personally would like Netflix to show some ethics and not reward people that support horrific things but I also don't see how allowing the GOP to choose what is right or wrong will lead to anything different than what China does.

I can't criticize him for sticking with the party line. I can say "Trump has a mushroom dick" and not worry about the authorities knocking on my door (being white and middle class helps).

That said, would Netflix make a deal with an Iranian author who denies Israel's right to exist? Or with a North Korean writer who expresses his devotion to Kim? There seems to be a different standard with China and the reason is fairly obvious. The GOP senators are hypocrites for sure, and maybe they are not the right people to speak up, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are wrong.

The incarceration of foreign children is disgusting.  And Inhumane treatment by a government one part oppressive and one part negligent is intolerable - Hundreds of thousands are dead because of it.  And the police state that murders its citizens and incarcerates in horrifying numbers must be stopped.

TDWCom29: The GOP are the party that cries wolf. So even if they're right about China being terrible it rings hollow because they're so full of shiat about everything else

Also the timing of only treating China like they're terrible after they dared indirectly cause a pandemic that Trump bungled the response to is laughable too

Hate for the GOP shouldn't lead to giving China a pass. They "indirectly" fueled this pandemic by lying about its dangers and imprisoning medical whistleblowers. Trump's failed response can mostly be attributed to stupidity, but China's was pure malice.

They seems to be very good at adapting other's work. It's just when they try to come up with ideas of their own that they flop. And evidently The Three Body Problem series is actually complete.

Cancel culture? The GOP is totes OK with having statues of traitors in US towns and cities, having bases named after them etc..and generally celebrating them for being traitors but is against the idea of making a TV show adaptation of some books by a guy who they don't like for reasons unrelated to the books?

That was exactly my thought.  I mean, yeah, it's disappointing to learn the author's views; the book is brilliant and it always sucks to find out the creator of a work you admire sucks balls.  But how does licensing his book to make a TV show compare to any number of things that Republicans are supporting today that are far worse?  So this author gets a payday from licensing his work, and because he's a dick that kind of sucks, but that's how licensing works.  But the GOP is complicit in, for example, all the shady behavior from our President* the last 4 years, and this is what they choose to focus on instead?  Fark off until you get your own house in order, I say.
