Good, the Cuties "controversy" was overblown. I look forward to this Magic Mike type sequel.

GOP Senators; By making a sci-fi tv show based on a book by an author that supports China's bigoted and suppressive policies you are doing a bad thing.

Also GOP Senators; It is fine that any US company can manufacture in China to avoid higher US labor cost and increase profits.

Sounds like something the GOP would root for

The only response required when GOP amoralists question you on anything is "get fukd, reprobate"

And then you bulldoze the shiat they love.

Next up. Stranger Things keeps retreading the same ground every season.

Why do they keep going if they don't have any new ideas

They seems to be very good at adapting other's work. It's just when they try to come up with ideas of their own that they flop. And evidently The Three Body Problem series is actually complete.

If he still lives in China, I'm not sure what people expect him to say in public other than being supportive of the Chinese regime. It's not like the Chinese people are protected by some sort of freedom of speech principle - they aren't free to criticize their government like we generally are.

The incarceration of foreign children is disgusting.  And Inhumane treatment by a government one part oppressive and one part negligent is intolerable - Hundreds of thousands are dead because of it.  And the police state that murders its citizens and incarcerates in horrifying numbers must be stopped.

I personally would like Netflix to show some ethics and not reward people that support horrific things but I also don't see how allowing the GOP to choose what is right or wrong will lead to anything different than what China does.

Cancel culture? The GOP is totes OK with having statues of traitors in US towns and cities, having bases named after them etc..and generally celebrating them for being traitors but is against the idea of making a TV show adaptation of some books by a guy who they don't like for reasons unrelated to the books?

If you haven't read the books.. read them. It is the best sci fi I have read for the modern age- I put it up there with the Foundation series.

I can't criticize him for sticking with the party line. I can say "Trump has a mushroom dick" and not worry about the authorities knocking on my door (being white and middle class helps).

That said, would Netflix make a deal with an Iranian author who denies Israel's right to exist? Or with a North Korean writer who expresses his devotion to Kim? There seems to be a different standard with China and the reason is fairly obvious. The GOP senators are hypocrites for sure, and maybe they are not the right people to speak up, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are wrong.

And, yes, I'm aware of the fact that Trumpanzees don't like Netflix because they made a deal with Obama and Democratic ex-presidents are supposed to be monks who take a vow of poverty. What I'm trying to is fark the GOP.

"The universe is a dark forest. Every civilization is a naked pervert stalking through the trees like a ghost, gently pushing aside roast beef curtains that block the path and trying to tread without sound. Even breathing is done with care. The pervert has to be careful, because everywhere in the forest are stealthy reprobates like him. If he finds other life-another horndog, an sexy angel or a kinky demon, a barely legal teen or a tottering old GILF, a bisexual or a ladyboy -there's only one thing he can do: bend them over and fark them. In this forest, hell is other people. An eternal threat that any life that exposes its own existence will be swiftly and deeply buggered. This is the picture of cosmic civilization. It's the explanation for the Ron Jeremy Paradox."

It definitely rings false coming from the GOP, who would gradually lock up every Latin and Middle-Eastern person in the country if they thought they could get away with it.

The GOP are the party that cries wolf. So even if they're right about China being terrible it rings hollow because they're so full of shiat about everything else

Also the timing of only treating China like they're terrible after they dared indirectly cause a pandemic that Trump bungled the response to is laughable too

Hate for the GOP shouldn't lead to giving China a pass. They "indirectly" fueled this pandemic by lying about its dangers and imprisoning medical whistleblowers. Trump's failed response can mostly be attributed to stupidity, but China's was pure malice.

That was exactly my thought.  I mean, yeah, it's disappointing to learn the author's views; the book is brilliant and it always sucks to find out the creator of a work you admire sucks balls.  But how does licensing his book to make a TV show compare to any number of things that Republicans are supporting today that are far worse?  So this author gets a payday from licensing his work, and because he's a dick that kind of sucks, but that's how licensing works.  But the GOP is complicit in, for example, all the shady behavior from our President* the last 4 years, and this is what they choose to focus on instead?  Fark off until you get your own house in order, I say.

This President has done nothing but criticize U.S. manufacturers for "shipping jobs overseas" to China, and other than maybe Romney which GOP senators have criticized him for that rhetoric? You may argue that he doesn't really believe what he says, but he sure does love slapping tariffs on the Chinese that punish American businesses. More to the point, the GOP is just dandy with it. Your cognitive dissonance comes from the fact that you think it's a good thing to punish American businesses for participating in global free trade, that it won't harm consumers, and therefore Donald Trump can't really mean it when he says he wants to do just that and therefore he must not really have taken any actions that harmed American companies, who then passed the costs down to consumers.

The reality is much different. Take a look at what this supposedly pro-business President (and the supposedly pro-business party that backs him) has actually done for business:

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/10/05/us-china-trade-war-causing-small-biz-to-reinvent-customer-retention.html

Take a look at how going after the Chinese economically has only hurt us:

https://unctad.org/en/pages/newsdetails.aspx?OriginalVersionID=2226

But you won't take any of this seriously. Oh no, GOP = pro-business in your mind, always will, and those eeeeevil capitalists must be stopped at all costs. Somehow these tariffs must be good for business, am I right? And the harm the tariffs have done to consumers? It's just fake news, am I farking right?!
