I'm pretty sure this happens every year in warm months bin warm states.  West Nile virus is still around, I expect to read a scary case or two of that too this year.

Just wear a snorkel or something to keep the nose closed - article says it only matters if it gets up the nose, not ingested through the mouth or otherwise.

I have no idea how long the no use order will be on effect, so hopefully it won't come to that.
At least the humidity is down this weekend. If I have to banish them all to the back yard, they won't be too uncomfortable.

Yeah, no. Generally, the water processed and distributed by water authorities, via the water mains and house taps, doesn't have brain-eating amoeba in it due to all of the filtering and chlorination. What you are thinking of as normal is the growth of brain-eating amoeba in stagnant freshwater ponds that people don't drink out of.

when i was a lad there was newspaper stories of city folks coming to the sticks of NoNJ and drowning in the swimming lakes. year after year, every year. lot of kids drowned too because no one was watching them.

The boy children range in age from 18-11, so I've kept baby wipes on hand due to dodgy wiping skills for ages. It really does cut down on horrifying laundry stains. They're super handy.

If they come with body lice, however, I will move to my sister's up north until they sort that shiat out.

There have been municipal cases in the past but they are always in the most backwards parts of louisiana so nobody really cares. Happens every few years.
