"they had no idea what the program was, how it would work, if it was legal, or where the money would come from."

The money will come from the same source that will continue paying for Social Security and Medicare without payroll tax deductions - Trump's fertile imagination.

Pay?  Republicans have been the Party of Dine & Dash for a while, even before Trump, who stiffs everyone.

2020-09-26 3:27:21 AM
Because trump isn't already leaving Biden a broken economy to fix. They're just trying to make sure they've broken every part of it before it's all handed over, presumably in a burning dumpster.

Thank you, Mr Mortimer.

I'm gonna give my $200 to Joe Biden.

They'll pay for it with tax cuts

In Minnesota, medical cannabis is prescribed by a medical doctor. There are many seniors in the program.
Woo woo.

200 bucks?
My step father, who died earlier this year from pancreatic cancer, with Medicare and supplemental was paying 1400 afarking month for proscriptions

200 don't cover shiat, but his base will lick it up like dogshiat from his shoe and claim it's candy

I'm a senior citizen. With out or with his bribe.
He can hang.

Someone will soon suggest that in all seriousness, if they haven't already.   Because tax cuts are farking magical.

Start another Impeachment. Just shut it down until after the election, and if the king of the Kakistocracy happens to win, then start another Impeachment. Fark it, if that's the only way to the GOP in action, which it won't, then do it anyway.

Oh, that's easy.  The funds come out of Medicare.  When Medicare starts to run out of money you cut taxes on the rich.  When you lose the next election you blame the Democrats for the problems you created.  When enough people believe your nonsense you win the next cycle of elections, and cut taxes for the rich.  Eventually, there's no federal tax revenue for anything but criminal courts and the military, and you've gotten what you wanted all along.

I work at a retail pharmacy, so my thought was "oh good, half a month of Xarelto/Advair/insulin/etc.

$200?! WOo-hoo! Now I can go play a round of golf at the nearest Trump Resort!

A functional government is supposed to benefit people anyway. Just screaming "I'll give you money!" underlines how bad he is at his job.

Unfortunately, unless he goes to prison or dies, he can still run again even if he's voted out.  Even if he doesn't ever run again, he can still serve as a kingmaker by throwing his followers' support behind specific politicians.   And even if neither of those things were a factor, he still has several ambitious children who are equally darling to the far right, and in any event, the political movement that aided and abetted his rise to power still exists and isn't going anywhere.   We can't ignore them, because it's too farking dangerous.

Goddammit.

They're accusing Dems of being Socialists so I'm pretty sure it would be through the Socialist redistribution of wealth since accusation=admission.

2020-09-26 8:32:43 AM
So he's basically giving people a $200 coupon? It's not a substantial change that helps over a long haul but a discount for most people? For most elderly on maintenance meds that's like that restaurant coupon for $10 off when appetizers start at $12. Sure it helps but it's not doing much for the overall price for that meal, let alone any future meals.

It's galling enough the notion to let this guy bust the economy more for what is a campaign operation is even on the table.

2020-09-26 8:35:49 AM
But trump* is rich. He can pay for it his own self.

/ I bet they steal the money from medicare.

His record as king maker kind of sucks. But yeah, Trumpism lives next door and I have no idea how to rid ourselves of these idiots?

What if the seniors take that $200 and remodel their kitchens?  Or buy a new car?

If he loses he turns absolutely radioactive.

Then he goes to jail and dies.

And in a country where he got millions of votes, you won't be able to find a trump voter within 50 miles of a suburb.

Who cares?
Don the Con and the rest of the republicons are gone November 3.
They will short the entire stock market, crater the economy and make more money than ever.
8 years from now when you've been eating your children for food you will gladly re-elect them all with promise of slavery for prisoners.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

I'd add two columns to the list, with a red X where applicable:

Trump had nothing/almost nothing to do with it.
This was a bad thing.

And a third if there were any purely imaginary things on there.

They'll pass the bill to the Biden Administration.  This is not a plan but a failsafe maneuver.

Yeah, it's basically the inverse of this.

No one who has ever paid prescriptions for incredibly common drugs would think $200 could even make a dent in it.

$200 won't get you a Symbicort inhaler without insurance.

2020-09-26 9:09:22 AM
Oh, it's only $200 per oldie.  I thought it was $200M.  Too much paperwork if the amount is so small.  Just have Trump's lawyers write a check for every one.  They can just bill it back to Bill Barr's outfit.

2020-09-26 9:13:50 AM

Alphax: $200 won't get you a Symbicort inhaler without insurance.

It won't get you a generic Symbicort, a generic Advair, or generic insulin lispro (Humalog).  Heck, it'll barely get you a month of atorvastatin, and that's been generic for years.  You can futz with discount cards, but they vary depending on the dose and which pharmacy you go to.  You can play the game of pharmacy shopping with discount cards, but then we can't check a new med for interactions with everything else you're taking that's spread across four pharmacies.

Donnie could just break  into his stash and give seniors some Adderall.

Well, there's the most literal example of "your mouth's writing cheques your arse can't cash" that you're ever likely to see.

I thought trump first insisted the pharmacy companies pay for $100 gift cards and they told the WH to pound sand??

$200? A drop in the bucket for most of us on Medicare. As long as you continue to ban companies from offering the use of discount cards for specific medicines there will be issues. The first dose of Ozempic put me in my donut hole in freak'n MARCH. Now it costs me 200+, while nonMedicare patients pay $10-25 bucks. How about maintenance meds like Advair? The general public can use a discount program and get it for $10-25 a month. Medicare patients pay 200 or more a month for it.
Bah, it's a sore subject.

This is HUGE, and there are doctors that don't realize those cards aren't eligible for government-funded health plans (Medicare, Tricare, Blue Cross FEP, Medicaid patients that have a drug that's not covered).  Any of the injectables are incredibly stupidly expensive.  The manufacturer cards only seem to help SOME commercially insured people, but most have a max discount, so your "as low as $25" Rybelsus is really $346 because the card has a max discount of $250 off your copay.

The pharmacy megachain where I work isn't allowed to offer our $20/year discount card to people who are Medicare ELIGIBLE, whether or not they have a part D plan.  Your atorvastatin will be $120, because I can't sell you the $20 card that makes it $10/month.  I can tell you how to find another discount, but am not allowed per company policy to look up a GoodRX or whatever coupon.

Funny, the last 2 Republican presidents have tried to buy me with cash.  It's kinda a no-brainer, who doesn't like cash?  But I'm not sure it's worth the trade-off for death, war, plague, disaster, debt...

What are they thinking? Now the drug companies are going to have to increase the amounts of their products by $400 to maintain their profit margin and pay for the repricing of their products.
