Why was he allowed to return to the pulpit to give any more "sermons"?

2020-09-26 2:42:32 AM
He should have been told that by every person who heard him.

There are more priests than just this guy and the one in Washington DC saying this garbage. I know a Catholic (well educated, was an active Democrat, but now lives in the Florida panhandle) who is positively giddy about the prospect of Suicide Martyrdom by Covid.
With so many people out of work, I believe it boils down to the Church not wanting to let go of any of that Catholic charities money. And of course abortion - have to keep those women subservient and dependent on "daddy."

Religion is a parasite on human existance and we're either going to remove it from the "organism" at some point or it's going to kill its host.

I wonder if these mooks would say the same thing if Covid had a 50% death rate.

I mostly agree with this, but I've always wondered, is there a disorganized religion we should be following? I would imagine that it would be somewhat Monty Pythonesque. I think I might enjoy going to a service at Saint Kevin's Church of We're Just Winging This.

Christianity has a wide range, but there are a few things that are pretty much central to christianity as a whole.  Virgin birth, Jesus rising from the dead, and his followers will live forever.  Miracles all the way around.

Those are basic beliefs, and all sound very superstitions.  I know very little about the Jesuits, but I can't see how they can be opposed to anti-intellectual tripe, as you say, and still believe in miracles that are at the core pf christianity.

Because the majority of Catholic colleges and universities are Jesuit. There are plenty of other orders that are out there - my Dominicans, Franciscans, Augustinians, Christian Brothers to name a few - but the biggest group are Jesuits.

\ IIRC, there's at least a dozen different orders, plus some diocesan schools like the Hall, represented in Division 1 athletics

As a teenager I distinctly remember a sermon, might have even been a Christmas service, where the minister straight up said "believing Mary was a virgin isn't actually important."

So you might be surprised.

He can lose his franchise for that statement.
The Lutherans might pick him up, but he could never pull it off as a Baptist or Pentecost like that. Really gotta come out as a firm "nope" on the virgin thing with those boys.

That's not what he asked. He asked how the Jesuits (or any organization, really) be considered logical if they believe in such bullshiat as Jesus' miracles.

\the answer is, of course, compartmentalization and doublethink

The denial of science that evangelicals have infested us with isn't from the Catholic church and Jesuits in particular have been proponents of science and education. For them, science is the study of God's creation.

The Catholic Church debated evolution from the start in the 1800s, and kept the question open. Pope Francis (a Jesuit) has explicitly accepted evolution as fact.

The soul and faith are separate matters for them.

Religion should be a safe haven for what be be seen as the worst sorts of bigotry, ignorant ideas and superstition. As a check on democracy's "tyranny of the majority." Because the people's best ideas, in particular, have a tendency to become stifling. Then when your own church tells you to stfu, you can be pretty confident you're wrong.

It's been a very long time since I had anything to do with the RCC, but they are chronically short of priests.

One amusing consequence of this is that racist all-white parishes frequently find themselves assigned hispanic priests because, well, that's what the church has more of.

Self-inflicted wound, that misogyny of theirs.

Early Catholic women were bishops.

Modern Catholic women clearly have awful low opinions of themselves to allow their families and coreligioniats to treat them like spiritually unsuitable subhumans, presumptively unfit for leadership.

America is burning because Republicans have been in charge for 4 years. We just need to vote. No finagling required for Biden to win, just an honest election. Or at least an election that overcomes all the obstacles to fairness the GOP is trying to put up, since there's no hope for a truly honest election with all the voter suppression the GOP has been up to for so long.
