I do hope to be surprised, though.

Oh God no. He's hated by the progressives.

I don't remember why. I think its because he only voted with the Democrats on everything important. Which was clearly not enough

In fairness, it's sort of like how Flake started saying the right things when re-election was no longer possible.  Doug knows he's going to lose, may as well do the right thing.  Added bonus: future with your party (since there probably isn't one in Alabama

He had to have known he wouldn't be re-elected when he won the special election in Dec 2017. I mean, seriously, he was going to be there for only 2 years, they had to choose between him and a child farker, and he barely won. They knew he would make zero difference in those two years on anything, and they still could barely bring themselves to vote for anyone without "R" next to their name.

Yes. The world needs him to make this move.

Mr. Jones, if you're in Toronto, I'll buy you a beer.

I was pleasantly surprised to see many Doug Jones yard signs in a Birmingham suburb I visited last weekend.  But sadly, he doesn't have a chance, and little support outside metro Birmingham.  You can depend on Alabama to always choose the worst option- Tuberville, in this case.

I think that Senator Jones pushed the political window in Alabama left, in a very important way, that way being just barely not electing a confirmed child predator. That might seem like pretty small thing from .... anywhere else. But you start with where you are. Congratulations and good job, sir.

This nation has taken such a magnificent plunge that, apparently, simply managing to meet bare minimal expectations is now considered a profile in courage.

Black women showed up in force at the last moment and saved the Dems' asses. Jones didn't move the place left.  Guy is doing his job, but he's not any kind of agent of change like that.

Fun fact, there were five patterns. After they figured out that he had cracked them all they fixed it by... replacing them with five new patterns.  Then when someone did the same thing with far less success they replaced that with... five new patterns. Maybe one more time of that, but they eventually went to some larger number of discrete patterns. Never went to a randomized algorithm, even though both in hardware or software an intern majoring in Comp Sci or Elec Eng could have easily developed such a randomized system at the time.

That's why I have volunteered labor, contributed money to his campaign. I will also vote for him again this November.

His GOP opponent, Tommy Tuberville, is just a former Auburn football coach with no platform nor campaign, who just has Traitor Trump's endorsement.

From what I've seen Jones is winning the yard sign election in Montgomery as well--I even saw a few of his signs out in the country. Jones has also bought a lot of air time but you hardly see Tuberville at all; maybe he thinks he doesn't need to waste his money. He could be right, but a man can dream.

Doug never had a chance at keeping the job - all they had to do was dig up some Republican who didn't molest little girls to win that seat back.

It's Doug Jones. He confirms all of Trump's federal judge picks. He's basically Joe Manchin's twin brother. I'll be genuinely surprised if he keeps his word.

There is no difference between what they did in 2016 and what they are doing now in 2020.

Republicans think they're strong because they take. They should know that it makes them brittle. If they can't win, they cheat. They don't reflect on the pro-rape, pro-lynching, pro-hate that has driven the last few decent people from their scum filled ranks.

Instead of aligning their views with the bulk of Americans they drag the worst of America further to the right. They double down on every farking hand.

I really hope we reject their nonsense and grift and hate in November. This election will be important because it may be the last where numbers can overcome their electoral farkery.

Well, on the one hand, it's good to see him take such a stand.  On the other, it means one less Democrat in Congress next year.  But given where he is, he probably wasn't going to win re election anyway.

He's supposed to represent his constituents, not just do what Schumer tells him. This has to do with selfish power, not courage. He's definitely a 1-termer.

Senator Jones does represent the majority of his Alabama constituents. Senator Shelby covers the remaining white supremacist minority in Alabama.

/Happy, happy, joy, joy.

Doug Jones is the reason some of the virulent racists who bombed the 16th St Baptist Church in Birmingham actually faced justice.

You can STFU and crawl back into your hole. You clearly don't live in Alabama and you don't know Doug Jones.

But please, go masturbate to your thoughts of Alabama electing a socialist instead of a centrist. It'll be so helpful to those of us who care about this state and are trying to change it.

A 1000x this. I have worked so hard in Madison and Mobile counties to help organize and coded precinct data tools from scratch that every time I see some useless Farker like Elwood or this chump wailing on Doug Jones for not endorsing Bernie it drives me crazy.

I built these completely from scratch because under Worley's party organization and tools are frowned upon. It took hundreds of hours to source the data from the GOP's SoS in a usable form, find up to date precinct maps, adjust for precincts that were eliminated because they retire old precinct numbers, and then put together models to pull straight-voting ballots and extrapolate by population and turnout because Alabama doesn't register by party, and then package it in an interactive format for Mac and PC so Doug Jones and State Party officials could collaborate.

Yet these raging assholes, who have never knocked on a farking door in their life, much less on the door of a Jack Reed 'Democrat' who spits on you for advocating for a candidate Jack Reed hasn't put on his yellow paper list, are outraged that Doug Jones is running a credible campaign in Alabama. A state where he barely won in the first place against a child molester. When he has voted for Impeachment and against Kavanaugh. A guy who went after the KKK and actually got them convicted. But no, none of that matters because he doesn't support Bernie's politically unworkable M4A that was never going to pass anyway and was certainly suicide in Alabama so therefore Doug Jones is no different than a Republican. Yeah it's a real farking mystery how the Bernie Bros weren't able to propel their candidate to victory.
