Precautions against... what?  Him dying as opposed to having a debilitating stroke live on video?

I'm no doctor but that looks like a very serious stroke.  Like the kind where you either don't make it or are never the same.

I didn't know you could hospitalize someone for stupid.

You'd be amazed what medical science can do these days, particularly with regards to catching a stroke this quickly;  an acquaintance of mine is an endovascular neurosurgeon and if you get the patient in within the window he can perform medical miracles, and undoing the damage from stroke is getting better every day.

Nevertheless, that was horrible to watch,.  All ya'll Farkers Remember FAST: Face (drooping), Arm (weakness), Speech (impaired), Time (get on the phone.  NOW).  If it looks anything remotely like this call 911 immediately.  In the same way we measure door to needle times with heart attack patients, every second literally counts.

An unstoppable being of pure anger and anachrocapitalistic ideals. They thought they'd had him under control years ago, but if it gets unleashed now, he'll smash the fed and say something incredibly racist.

I sure hope the doctors treating him do not accept Medicare and charge him full price.

I'm still disappointed it wasn't Rand. I mean, apple doesn't fall far from the tree and all that, but ... it shoulda been Rand.

Don't insult him by taking him to a hospital.  He can deal with his rotting brain on his own, it's the libertarian way.

Not really. We didn't see enough to make that judgement. He could've come back right away. They can do this same shiat with TMS. It's a parlor trick.

Not saying he's not gonna be drooling, but sometimes these kinds of stokes really do just pass with little or not residual effects. A good sign is whether he lost consciousness or not.

That video is a perfect example of what people need to see when being taught the warning signs of a stroke.  It was so textbook it gave me heebie jeebies

Don't worry; I'm sure somebody will beat up Rand Paul again, soon.

Precaution against death? Because the dude had a stroke. I'm no doctor but when I watch a man spinning beach ball right in front of me I know what happened.

Just saw the video. Still more coherent than a Trump rally. IDK how any republican watching the feed came to realize the guy was stroking out.

Yeah, it's in bad taste to wish ill will on an old guy who experienced a medical issue common for his age.  Square this with the fark-the-poor ideology karma and offspring this old guy foisted upon the world.
I'm thinking the world is going to call in a marker.

Man, I don't want anybody chiding me for making light of Ron Paul's situation when we all know that Rand Paul is hovering near his death bed, muttering "hurry up and die old man, so that I may absorb your being into mine and ascend to my higher form."

Here's a statement he released:

Don't count him out yet! After all, Carol Wells Paul had an 8-pound brick of feces removed from her uterus back in early 1963 and she's still alive.

I first read that as Rand Paul and I thought Fauci put a voodoo pin in him.

Notice how energetic Moscow Mitch is lately, since we're on that subject? Not one for wishing polio killing kids, but in his case, I'd make an exception.

He has TPA hanging in his picture. THat's the glass vial on the pump channel labeled TPA

Stroke means something cut off blood flow to a specific area of the brain for 24hrs+.
Transient Ischemic Attack means under 24 hours.
The effects and how long lasting they are heavily depending on how long the blood flow got cut off to that area.

If he's up in bed smiling by now and this happened today, it was probably a brief TIA which he'll be completely fine from and the real problem left is figuring out how to prevent future ones.

I'd like to know what 18 idiots smarted this, but no, you can not 'undo' the damage that strokes do.  Damage to the brain is permanent (though it can adapt and rewire if you're young).

The key with strokes is simply being admitted and treated as soon as possible, just like a heart attack.  By doing so, you keep the damage to a minimum.

Treatments are getting better and better to minimize said damage (and therapy is getting better to learn to adapt to the damage done), but no, you can't 'undo' the damage that's already done.

It's not a TIA if he has TPA hanging. Either that or it was such a good mimic that a neurologist and emergency physician thought it warranted being given.

I totally get where you're coming from, and while I don't care for Mr. Paul's politics even a little bit, my personal faith requires me to love and care for even some of my most disagreeable neighbors.  While  it can be very challenging at times, especially now, as some of my  neighbors have Trump yard  signs  and openly campaign  against my right to even be married to the person I am married to... it's my moral code, and I'll be damned if I'm gonna let some jerks who  try to rebrand selfishness as "libertarianism" rewrite my moral code... I'm entirely convinced they'd do an awful job, and I politely refuse to cede them that kind  of power.

I can understand what they're saying though. TPA and endovascular approaches for ischemic stroke have created literal miracles from strokes that would have been fatal or profoundly life-altering even a decade before.

The brain isn't being regenerated, the penumbra is being kept small.

For those who don't know what TPA (Tissue plasminogen activator) is. It's a clotbusting drug used in ischemic stroke and for mimics when ischemic stroke cannot be ruled out in the first 4 hours of onset of symptoms.
