He's a good guy and I'm really sorry to hear this.

As a Virginia resident.  I have applauded him for his orders about mask wearing, and wish he would have implemented more stringent measures considering the amount of cases continuing to rise here in Virginia.

With that though, Northam has not been the best when it comes to leading by example, as there have been numerous times that he has been out and about in Richmond and elsewhere in the commonwealth without proper mask wearing.

His wife is president of George Mason, which has been royally farking up its re-opening, so I wouldn't be surprised if she was the vector

Masks don't prevent YOU from getting COVID.  They help to limit your ability to give it to others.

ummm....duh?

Sure they can. Masks can prevent somebody from touching their own face directly thereby preventing them from getting Covid

Also, just because it's not an American-made N95 (or an H14, which blocks a minimum of 99.95% of corona sized particles), doesn't mean it won't block a large fraction of potentially covid laden microdroplets.

And it appears that, not terribly surprisingly, the dose of particles that cause the infection strongly influences the severity of symptoms, so even if the mask fails to stop all particles it will make the infection less severe.

And children can asymptomatically carry a high viral load.

Just in time to hug grandma after school.

Wearing a mask drops your exposure by 30%
The infected person wearing a mask drops your exposure by 95%

If ONLY people who didn't wear masks go sick, this wouldn't be an issue. Americans are concerned about their own health and comfort and don't give a damn about other people. It really sin't the country I thought it was.

This is sad he tried doing the right thing, unlike other shiathead governors. It's not sad
Because he's a democrat, it was also sad when DeWine got Covid.
