I wish the noise from the bad people would be muted completely so the noise from the good would be louder and clearer.

There's a lot of this going on around the country, and that's pretty cool.

Doesn't matter. The bad ones have all the money and power.

This. There are people who know how repugnant Trump, and other Republicans are. They see the hypocrisy, and abslutelyknow the damage that will happen.

But their greatest self-interest above even their own physical security is their financial portfolio. And they'll vote evil every time if it means that they don't loose a single penny, despite whatever freedoms they lose. And like a panicking person who can't swim, they'll grab hold of the rest of us and pull the rest of us down to drown as well.

That is super awesome.

But... Those desks aren't sized right for zoom class. Need room for laptop and textbook and notebook.

Still awesome, but could be so much better.

You have a point.  My first concern was for the students who live in a place where they have no room for a desk.

Only thing that sucks is it seems the bad people are the one that make the news more often. But people like this man help keep me going through the day.

Great headline subby. Thanks for finding some good news in this dumpster fire of a year.

Most people are good - to those they consider part of their tribe. Those perceived as outsiders? Not nearly so certain they will be well-treated by those same 'good' people.

Nah. Most people are good good. Every day there are millions of acts of kindness (some spontaneous, some planned; some for acquaintances, some for strangers; some big and some small) that are happening that never register on the public's radar - doesn't mean that they're not still happening or that they don't matter, because they do.

My portfolio has done great the past 4 years. Why should I vote against the financial best interest of my own family? I dont see the leap in logic to where that has anything to do with pulling everyone else down. It seems the opposite to me. Those who do not have money would like to pull down those who do.

Kids need little things like this to know they matter.

My sister made little "cubicles" for all her students to put around their virtual desks, so they could decorate them and have something to make their study space special for online classes.

Kids like that. And they like adults who do things like that for them. They may never say thanks, but they'll remember it.

In-group bias exists. Those little acts of kindness are done for others for which the doer has empathy, always. The more like you someone is, the easier empathy is. I wish it were the case that empathy was easy, and people would always be good and do good deeds for people regardless of circumstances.

The sad truth is, that's the illusion we present to ourselves. The research on this topic is not so heartening. Most good people are selective about who they are good to. I do not doubt those myriad acts of kindness exist. What I doubt is their distribution.

Pretty, thin people get more favors done for them. So do white people. So do rich people. It's not enough to do kind things all the time, if you only do them for people you already favor.

Possible? Yes. Likely? Less so than if you didn't have wealth and/or power.

So getting back to what the Pope said, there are more good then bad, because there is so much wealth inequality.

A famous Jewish Rabbi from the first century allowed that it was Possible but VERY unlikely.  I think the metaphor was that it was as likely as a camel passing through the eye of a needle.

A little late to this thread... as someone who has worked from home for a while, I'm a huge fan of wood veneer folding office tables. Think 30" wide and 6 to 8 feet long. You can get them delivered from office supply stores for $60-$120 and they provide plenty of space for a laptop or desktop and a couple of monitors.

With almost everything being on the computer these days, it just seems silly to spend 4 times that amount for a desk with drawers. I've got a coffee mug that holds my pens and pencils and that's all the "storage" I've needed for many years now.
