(Reuters)   Today is Tax Day for Trump, as his attorneys argue once again that releasing 8 years of personal and corporate returns would, in their own words, cause "Irreparable Damage". Sounds like something a multibillionaire would say if they actually are one   (reuters.com) divider line

I'm pretty certain that the Manhattan D.A.'s recent admission that yes, Trump and his companies were definitely under investigation for tax fraud, has no bearing on this decision.

Grand juries aren't convened without good cause.

C'mon subby, you know Trump Org has filed for an extension. Nothing is due until October 15.

I doubt if Putin's "contributions" are deductible.

Those things are GOING to come out.  Sooner or later.  Biden wins, and one of the first things he's going to do is replace the head of the IRS.  Who will release the tax returns as soon as the House asks for them.  Court orders or not, they are going to get released.

Aren't they out of extensions?   I thought the last court hearing was clear on that.  They had no compelling reason to delay other than "releasing the info is very very bad for us" which is not a legal argument.

It is in front of a republican judge.

This is the guy who handed out maps of his electoral victory to everybody.

If he was actually rich, he'd be handing out copies of his tax returns.

TLDR version: it would lay bare the pattern of money laundering and fraud that Donny regularly engages in.

I see the opposite. If Donnie were actually a multibillionare he would be paying to run ads that featured his tax returns to show it off.   It would certainly be on Twitter.

Releasing evidence of crime often causes irreparable damage to the criminal.  That's the main motivation for releasing it because, you know, it's about a criminal and crime and we're not supposed to be in favor of either of those things.

I'm starting to think this Trump fellow's business dealings weren't on the up and up.

I wonder what other Millionaires and Billionaires think of Donnie and his hidden Tax Returns.  Donnie's favorite line is still "I can't release them because I'm being Audited!"  All the other guys are probably like "We're audited every single year and have no problem showing ours, you dipstick."

Everything about Trump's look, going back to the 80s, makes it obvious that he refuses to listen to anything approaching even constructive criticism.

On a related note, Biden needs to go after Trump saying things like "millionaires like Trump". Trump can't resist attempting to correct him to "billionaire", leaving an opening for Biden to go for his throat over the "tax returns Trump can't release because he is still under audit after 17 years".

^prove you're a billionaire. Release the taxes!

Man, when I think about all the irreparable damage that would be done to me if my tax returns ever got out... I mean, just think of all that damage. People would know if I lied to them about my income, or about where I banked, or about how much I gave to charity.... and if people stop believing me when I lie to them, how will I ever do business again? How would I ever get laid again? Sheesh, come on, people! The damage would be irreparable!

This Trump guy should be like Jaime Harrison, the guy who was challenged to release his taxes by his opponent, the shameless scumbag piece of sh*t Lindsey Graham.

I need to remember this gambit the next time I'm in court...

"Your honor, we'd like to request that the court suppress my tax returns the evidence against me as it would prove my guilt."

2020-09-25 1:20:46 PM
Well, sure it would. It would show how Trump's tax fraud has been stealing from the tax payers and the Federal Government leading to a prison sentence, asset seizure, and huge fines. Sounds sounds irreparable damage to me, and that is a good thing for him, let him rot in prison.

In a more perfect world, it the politics of a judge wouldn't affect his/her ruling, but obviously they do in this world so it is kind of relevant to the proceedings.  However it would be nice if that distinction was pointed out consistently, like say in March of 2019

Bill Barr, who is a Republican, released a four page letter to Congress outlining the conclusions of the Mueller Report, which was put together by Republican Robert Mueller, who was appointed by Republican Rod Rosenstein, after the firing of FBI director James Comey, also a Republican.

Trump convenes the grandest of juries. No one convenes a more bigly, grander, more luxurious jury. For a premier juror experience, trust Trump grand juries.

Who the fark cares? President Great Businessman can bleat all he want to about how unfair it all is. And Trump's track record, even with Republican-appointed judges, has been mixed at best.

I'll settle for any 2 consecutive years of the last 10.  He can't do it because he is awash in Russian and Saudi cash. He has too many foreign interests to be president.

Joe Biden is a millionaire too, though (google says ~$11M net worth). If he starts throwing shade on millionaires, a competent debate opponent could seize that opening. Heck, even Trump could probably do something with that.

Sloppy-ass rich person is also apparently kind of a thing, if my time working at a certain prestigious boarding school that seeks to beat Choate in the early 2000s is in any way reflective of society writ large.

We all know what's going to happen next. Trump loses in this court and appeals to SCOTUS, and SCOTUS won't decide until after the election whether to even hear the case. Then we wait months and they remand it back to the lower court.

I'm tired of his delaying strategy.
