That would explain why a number of total farkers seem to be reasonably intelligent.

Okay fine, perhaps I do have higher than average intelligence, but I assure you I can still manage to be quite emotionally unstable as well.

I'm not convinced there's a correlation. To whit: Donnie tRump has managed to liberate many people of their hard earned money over many decades and he doesn't strike me as even remotely intelligent.

You do the math.

Yes, but he's taking advantage of (mostly) dumb people.  The headline suggests that our host is taking money from smart people.

I'm glad you qualified that with "mostly". I had considered that too, but even intelligent people get sucked into con games. You're here on TF right?

I won't be so bold as to claim anything other than average intelligence. I'm not stupid. Mostly.

Gak!!
That article was the most boring, tedious and monotonous thing I ever read.
Were the author(s) of the article Vogons or just intentionally being humorless, seems to me if you write an article correlating dark humor to IQ, at least crack some jokes.  I wanted to bang my skull against the wall two paragraphs into the long screed, by the third paragraph I wanted to take poison, by the fourth I wanted to scratch my eyes out.
I was afraid I might commit suicide, so I stopped reading.
Way worse the Vogon poetry.
I guess I'm pretty humorless.

I never understood the putting people on ignore thing.  I have never and will never put a fellow Farker on ignore, even those who are real assholes who make everything personal.

Even the most assholish troll might have something of value to say, and I would hate to miss that.

Plus, I have a very expansive idea of the concept of "free speech", and putting someone on ignore feels like censorship.  Yes, it doesn't prevent them from saying what they want to say, but I can't very well argue that people should be able to say what they want while blocking what they say.   Feels hypocritical.

Putting someone on ignore is a way of only hearing opinions that agree with your own. That way you are always convinced you are right and in the majority.

Which is exactly what Trump does by only watching and reading news sources that support him and reading briefs he has requested.

We have a lot of Trumps around here.

Couldn't agree more, as well as with the comment above mine about only hearing people that you agree with.  That part is genuinely dangerous; every idea gets abused eventually and you need to hear the people who are calling that out, as early as possible.

But I think this is a minority opinion, gods (or I guess Drew in this case) only know how many people have me on ignore.

And speaking of intelligence?  Mass movements of any kind rarely have any use for true skepticism, a willingness to question anything.  Be careful with that Ignore function.  You'll almost certainly use it on people that you need to hear

The only people I would consider ignoring, instead of just highlighting would be gorgor and rugbyjock, or potentially spam bots like bevets.

I haven't blocked them, but I've considered it. I do have a highlight color system though.

This isn't the proper venue for discussing this in detail (de-*tail*, get it?), but there are ways to insert things so they go up there.  I'd hate for you to miss out on the finer things in life (or the finer things in de-tail)

This is one of those studies where the methodology is fine (I mean, in the context of how hard it is to control variables in psychology with current methods, it'd be laughed out of the room even by sociology standards on rigor but that part isn't their fault) but what they're measuring is something that's self-defined and, from anyone else's viewpoint, so completely personal to the author of the study and effectively arbitrary that the results mean literally nothing.

I'm not going to necessarily go after the group for being bad at science for this, because before something becomes a standard metric somebody has to arbitrarily define it first, I'm just saying as readers you should be aware that all of the terms in both hypothesis and conclusion have been from a layman's perspective redefined to the point that you'd vehemently disagree with anyone using them in this way in conversation or other writing.
