I just hope that you folks will be happy in a few years when there is a giant drop in healthy players being alive due to long term effects of this that they could have avoided. In all sports involved in this failure.

We have been losing local recruits to out of conference schools since this whole thing started.

Sure it is a deadly plague, but come on people, what is that compared to football?

Southern rednecks served as useful guinea pigs and since they managed to conduct a few weeks of football without it coming to a screeching halt, it is now acceptable for their wealthier counterparts to resume action.

There were already discussions if a Big10 team ran the table, is it enough to play for a championship... Now the Pac12 is playing one less game so I'm sure the screams from the South will be even louder

This entire college football season is a clusterfark of a sham. And the college hoops season will be as well. It's amazing what idiots will do for money.

Or they could just expand the CFP to 8 but that would make too much sense.

And let someone like UCF into the playoffs? They might actually beat an SEC team in the post season. And you can't have that.

Think about all those poor ignorant gloomy doomsayers who predicted and believed that there would be no baseball or hockey or basketball or football or etc this year. I wonder if they all died of the embarrassment and the stupid or if they are still out there making more hilariously wrong predictions?

I mean, the way baseball started was an embarrassment. The only reason the season continued was $, and it's basically been glorified spring training

Basketball and hockey were smart and bubbled up. So far no issues in pro football, but there are college teams who have scores of players "unavailable" for reasons teams won't give. And the SEC schools have all but admitted they're skirting testing rules, so the players are basically on their own

So yeah, no one's died or is going to die, and anyone who claimed otherwise was being hyperbolistic. But we're essentially getting sports-lite right now outside of football. And those sports are only 2 weeks in. They won't be canceled at this point, but any week now whole teams could be out and we get a watered down baseball-like season. So, congrats I guess? American style "Who cares about health, there's money to be hypothetically made" stupidity won out!

The jury isn't out yet but, yeah, if we don't see a spike due to professional, college and high school sports being played during a pandemic then I'll be more than happy to admit I was wrong. To be clear: I want to be wrong.

Again I will ask of the "FOOTBALL IS DOOMED!!!!1!!" crowd...

MLB, NHL, NBA and NASCAR have been running for months. Why do you think football will be any different? The contact? NHL and NBA have been fine.
Lack of a bubble? MLB and the NFL are going strong.

This is not to say that COVID should not be taken seriously. But if you think that we as human beings cannot adapt to it, you haven't been paying attention the past 400,000 years or so. Full on opening back up with no limits is amazingly stupid but no more so than the notion that endless lockdowns and the death of most livelihoods and normalcy in general would be any better. As always, the answer is somewhere in the middle and the mitigation efforts you see happening across most industries, including sports, represent the correct direction for society to move forward with.

Yeah, we need a 3-week playoff in an already-compressed season where major conferences don't start until late October/early November.

Bubbled, and have had fewer and fewer teams to worry about as the playoffs go

Lack of a bubble? MLB and the NFL are going strong.

The MLB practically had entire teams catch covid when they first came back. It was a total embarrassment for them and, frankly, the season overall has been a joke

Not saying the football season is doomed. They're going to play if they have to suit up cheerleaders, too much money. Just saying in any sane society we'd maybe have put a little more thought into this

TDWCom29: Bubbled, and have had fewer and fewer teams to worry about as the playoffs go

The bubble concept was addressed in my second point with the sports that did fine without them. As for fewer teams and playoffs, so? You still have to manage entire teams and staff up to and throughout the playoffs. The fact that there have been next to no issues there would seem to suggest that being a contact sport is not a major concern.

TDWCom29: The MLB practically had entire teams catch covid when they first came back. It was a total embarrassment for them and, frankly, the season overall has been a joke

Yes a lot of MLB players tested positive for COVID. Again I ask, so? More than once I have wondered aloud here why a positive test is treated like a stage 4 cancer diagnosis on fark. Were many players symptomatic? Hospitalized? Dead? No? Could be because a large number of people over the summer in the entire country were getting the virus so why would MLB players be any different whether playing or at home? But being active in a profession with constant testing and access to excellent medical care kind of makes this less of concern.

As to the embarrassment and joke season statements, you're entitled to those opinions but neither has anything to do with if a sport can safely reopen or not.

TDWCom29: Not saying the football season is doomed.

You? No but there is a strong Hyperbole Brigade here in the sports tab that is predicting the death of anyone involved despite the facts we have observed for months. It's approaching climate change denial levels of lunacy.

TDWCom29: Just saying in any sane society we'd maybe have put a little more thought into this

Like how much more? Bubbles/limited team accessibility, constant testing, contact tracing, masking, reduced schedules, delayed seasons, quarantines for positive tests, +% limits, opt outs, little or no attendance. Exactly how much more "thought" do you need to see?
