well then, i guess it's a good thing "the satanic temple" is actually an a-religious political protest organization, where most members identify as atheist (if they bother to identify as anything), and has no affiliation with LaVeyan Satanism.

it is probably the most vigorous, media savvy, and humorously witty, advocate for GENUINE "religious freedom/freedom from religion", the real spirit of democracy, pro-science public education, and empathetic humanism -all manifesting in the legal system and public life- in america today.

St. Peter, the first pope, chose to be crucified upside down because he didn't feel like he was worthy to go out like Jesus.

The St. Peter's cross- the inverted cross- is a venerated symbol for those who are really into Catholic Symbology.

Well, she certainly did, though I disagree that it's all she did.

FTFA: Members of the Satanic Temple do not believe in the supernatural or superstition. In the same way that some Unitarians and some Jews do not believe in God, Satanic Temple members do not worship Satan and most are atheists. They are not affiliated in any way with the Church of Satan. Instead, the Satanic Temple uses the devil as a symbol of rebellion.

I refuse to believe this is real. Not gonna click to find out.

That's what I think this is too. It plays right into the hands of the religious right so perfectly that only an idiot would write such an article now.

RTFA or even TFThread, you warriors of image and good taste. TST is a political organization fighting for the separation of church and state. Anyone who was going to scream OMG, SATAN!! and change their freaking political alignmentdue to this news was already beyond help and people who would use it as ammo are preaching to their choir.

The only reason I haven't put in for my Satanist card is I suspect they would pressure me to frame my lack of belief in a god as Atheism and homie don't play caving to authority like that.

Republicans have a clear path to stealing the election no matter who the hell wins. Spend your concern on something other than people mentioning they've joined a political organization with a scary name.

You seem to think that actions don't have consequences, yet as was shown above, this story has legs and is already trending on social media. The timing could not have been worse to write this stupid article.

No one in this thread is saying that the Satanic Temple is about worshipping Satan, but you can bet your ass that it's a useful tool to beat the sheep over the head about how the Left is aligned with Satan and all good God fearing people should vote for Trump because that's a vote for God.

So my comment only goes to the stupidity or malice in writing and publishing this story. It does nothing to help the progressive cause and only lights a fire under the Religious Right. We don't need more fires this year.

And if you think we're going to squeak by somehow by being inoffensiveyou're fooling yourself. Anything worth doing right now is going to piss off Republicans and/or Fundegelicals. They're not going to back off if we roll over or quiet down.

Shh, you can be an activist, but please don't mention it right now, when activism is one of the only paths we have available. What else did you want us to quiet down about, with the Supreme Court and the election under siege? Roe v. Wade? Gay rights? School vouchers?

You're scared because something is trending on social media? You're grasping at straws! We have less than a week until the goddamn debates. We're in the middle of a pandemic. One new Satanist isn't going to get the spotlight for more than a cycle, unless there's some actual child sacrifice involved.

Take a step back and orient yourself to the immediate threat, if you can handle it. Then maybe take some action without letting the threat of retaliation freeze you.

I must be thinking of the Portland chapter's split over the right wing, to be generous, company that Lucien Greaves kept two years ago. Although I do recall Lucien being a fan of Anton, the schism was more Nazi related than devil worship. My Bol.
