Came to say this, leaving dissatisfied.

I want an electric ATV for deer hunting, but that Battlestar Galactica '80 reject isn't it.

Also with a much lower top speed, I'm not suicidal.

Cybertruck is coming out by November 3? Neat!

Monty_Zoncolan: So... we're just gonna ignore YESTERDAY when their entire farking global network went down for 12 hours or so?

It's a cloud outage, not the end of the world.

Monty_Zoncolan: It's just an unexpected layover wherever the hell you happen to be, unplanned stranding, no biggie.

Apparently it is not.  People still had access to their cars.

Huh? Driving wasn't affected. Just connectivity features and apps.

That looks like it would be a lot of fun to get dirty.

If you want to know what a post apocalyptic world would be like, try this hot sauce from T.C.

I rubbed my eye once after trying it. Don't do that. Or handle any genitals

Likwit: Just connectivity features and apps.

The hell kind of "Connectivity features and apps" could a persona possibly need on their phone to drive their car?

Like... I'm completely serious - what kind of idiot would put anything into their phone app related to the function of their car that isn't available in the car?

More importantly..... why would anyone ever buy it?

Are you serious?

You can operate the A/C, check you battery status, get a notification if the security system has been tripped, see the GPS location. All kinds of stuff.

I love how hostile these Boomers and Zoomers get about EVs. I hope you're super heart broken when gas cars are all gone. And then I hope you're super heartbroken again when you realize how much you missed out on because you were so hard-headed for so long.

So ......  what you're saying is you don't need the phone app at all and the entire concept is stupid?

Check and check.

Nope. It's amazing.

You never have to get into to a scorching hot car in the summer or a freezing cold car in the winter ever again.

I also have a hard time believing you don't see the value in being immediately notified that your car has been touched or tampered with.

The concept is kind of neat.  The problem is  I have never once in my life wished that I could turn on the A/C or heat before I got in my truck.  Hell, I only run the A/C a couple times at the peak of summer, usually when I'm on the highway and wind noise makes rolling the windows down impractical.  Temperature just does both me much.

As far as being notified you car has been touched?  .... Again ....  no?   I suspect it is a LOT more often than I am aware of or would be comfortable with. The next question is what would you do about it?   Run out of work and confront some stranger before they've walked off or driven away or whatever?  Meh.

I consider it like those doorbells that videotape everyone to save you from intruders.   A) It's not a real problem. Yes it happens, it also happens so infrequently that you should stop worrying about it and buying shiat.  The worlds a safe place, more or less.  B)   You have to fork over control of your stuff for that to even work and corporations are never in it to help you out.   So yay! You can turn on your cars A/C but if you change your car in a way Tesla doesn't like they kick you off their charger network. That sounds like a super shiatty trade to me.

So I politely repeat.  you don't need the phone app at all and the entire concept is stupid.

"I don't have these problems therefore the solution is not useful".

Well I've got the problem of island life where my truck bakes in 100 degree heat around the time I clock out. I would assume those who live in the cold would certainly appreciate a preflight warmup as much as I'd like a cool down. That's a feature normally reserved for customized or more expensive cars tho.
As for security your mileage may vary. It's never a big concern until it is, and suddenly having a video alert of who is messing with your car become a very handy feature.
Electric cars are new to general society and that means there's going to be growing pains and new rules invented to manage them. Buyer beware, but don't expect Tesla to be only one facing controversy.

The cell phone is becoming the new wallet. People are attaching their lives to these devices and that will lead to even more rules and even more unexpected problems that have to be solved.  A supercomputer in your pocket has its advantages tho, and one is that it can be an access point to other hardware in your life (especially your home and your vehicle). Having an app interface is a very nice feature that allows for new ways to remote control everything.
It's not essential tho and, because it's not, the network shutdown didn't cause a loss of essential features. These are still nice features tho, and that means they'll probably be imitated by other companies as they compete for your business.
Features add up and become those things that help you decide which car to buy.

So you live somewhere where climate control isn't necessary for much of the year, and you yourself are not bothered by temperature. But the concept is stupid and unnecessary...

That has to be the most 'old man yells at cloud' thing I've heard all day. And I've been talking with that Farker whose name is Trump's favorite food.

I dunno, grew up in the texas panhandle.  So better than 100 all summer every summer and frequently over 110.  But the whole "Oh, you just don't understand!" argument is cute.

Some people are just not bothered by a slight amount of discomfort.   So .. put on you big boy panties and stop trying to make your inability to deal worth the slightest life stress some reason I should care about when it the "solution" stops working.  It's not news, it's children being confronted by reality.

Sorry, bruh. I'm loving never having to get sweaty for no reason. You can go on thinking it's a stupid feature, but I love it.

The Lordstown Endurance is never coming to my country, but it's at the top of my wish list just above the Cybertruck. It will have remote A/C.

Some people are not bothered by discomfort, it does not mean they want to bath from a bucket of cold water when the power is out.  Electricity, once a luxury, is seen as a must have by most. They could put on their big boy pants or they could enjoy the little things in life that save time and make them happy.

In the same light there are a lot of features your car has that it does not "need", but these are big selling points because people do like their automatic transmissions and air conditioning. You could live without them but there's no need to if you can afford them.
When they become standardized then everyone can afford them the same way they afford the mass produced luxury of a cell phone. There's no reason to deprive yourself.
