Bill Murray is a GALACTIC level douchebag and nobody should like him.

Where is this advertised, on broadcast TV?

People still watch broadcast TV?

That letter is awesome. It is the cease and desist Bill Murray deserves.

Close2TheEdge: Bill Murray is a GALACTIC level douchebag and nobody should like him.

He was so infamous for turning grouchy on projects that when they filmed Groundhog Day they did the scenes where he's supposed to be genuinely nice first and left the dickhead stuff from the beginning of the movie for the end of filming.

That lawyer's letter was witty & amusing - which leads me to believe it wasn't written by a lawyer.

I can take him or leave him.  Leave him mostly.  Never understood the mass appeal. He's good in few films.  Always seemed like a pretentious douchebag though.

Yes, it's true. This man has no dick.

Chevy, is that you?

The bonus scene in Zombieland 2 was totally worth the rest of that movie.

2020-09-24 1:34:23 PM
He was always the master of acting the part of the deprecating douchebag, but it was never self-deprecating. And I don't think he was even acting most of the time.

I thought it made for great parts on SNL, but I never really liked him in movies. Zero good nostalgia for me.

Has he said anything racist yet?

He's a real character. That's what's appealing to me. But, I guess I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of his dickishness.

He is the reason that a proper Ghostbusters sequel was never made with Harold Ramis.  Now he is dead, and Bill Murray lives on to act like the world owes him something for all the fame he has.  fark that guy.

He's made a very good career out of being a total dick, and being the everyman's avatar of the absolute pricks they would all be if they could get away with it.  I have never felt he added anything positive to anything I've seen him in.  Just more dickery.  And frankly, I see enough of that in my real life. I don't need movies to provide it for me.

Bill Murray and Adam Sandler are both in my "How the f*ck is this guy so popular?" list.  Also my "Yeah, I'm not watching that shiat" list.

Oddly, I always enjoyed a lot of Sandler's stuff (Waterboy was a low point, despite the cult following) but I can totally see the connection. And both of them went on to do much deeper and more dramatic stuff later. I didn't love Lost in Translation, but didn't hate it either. Same with Punch Drunk Love.

Uncut Gems (Sandler) was definitely watchable. Once.

Just read that they did not get along on set, which is hardly surprising - both guys have histories as being difficult, and their characters are supposed to be antagonistic.  But Dreyfuss said Murray makes him laugh, even though he hates him.

Like a third Ghostbusters was needed.  The sequel wasn't that good, and a third would have been shiate.

Lot of hate in this thread for a guy that's given us so many laughs.  And comparing him to that hack Sandler?  Please.

I just read about that recently.. Dreyfuss was quoted something along the lines of "I don't like the guy but he does make me laugh"

In Uncut Gems, Adam Sandler plays the same character he plays in his comedies, it's just that the world reacts to that kind of character more realistically.

Bill Murray randomly punched me inna face once.  Then he whips out his wallet and gives me a 20.

Then he leaned in and quietly said " No one will ever believe you " and left out the back door.

I miss him.

That was an amusing cease and desist letter.  No surprise it came from the named partner of the firm.

I can only imagine a lowly associate like me, writing that kind of letter and giving it to a partner to review.  Yeah that wouldn't go down too well.

The whole movie I was saying "WTF are you doing, dude? What's wrong with you? STOP WHILE YOU'RE AHEAD!"
Then: "Wow, is he really going to pull this off?"
Then: "Oh."

All those white male Boomer movies of the late 70s to early 90s don't hold up.  The characters are completely unlikable.

I think Ghostbusters 2 might have been the reason

I enjoy Bill Murray in movies. Ghosbusters, Rushmore, Caddyshack, Stripes, Scrooged, Groundhog Day, all classics. His cameo in Zombieland was awesome. But I wouldn't be surprised to learn he's a dick in real life. There are many anecdotes of him breezing into people's lives for a brief moment and then vanishing as quickly as he came. He's a strange guy for sure. But sometimes it takes a strange guy to deliver good art. But as the letter suggests, Garfield was a mistake.

2020-09-24 5:22:13 PM
Since I've never met Bill Murray, and will probably never meet Bill Murray, the only contact I'll ever have with him is in his movies.  And every one of his movies makes me laugh.  That's all Bill Murray owes me, and I like him very much for consistently delivering the goods to me.

Hey, I liked Ghostbusters 2. It was never going to live up to the first movie, but taken on its own, I like it quite a bit.
