The announcement seemed to be a clear attempt to appeal to Cuban-American voters in Florida, which is seen by many analysts as a must-win state for Trumpif he is to be reelected in November.

Gee, maybe Gaspedal Gaetz should call for an investigation.  Clearly Trump is giving something of value to influence the votes of Floridians here.

Unlessssssss...that contract for Trump Tower Havana, Trump Cigars and Senor Donaldo's Premium Rum comes through.

"These actions will ensure that US dollars do not fund the Cuban regime and go directly to the Cuban people," the President asserted.

Um....yeahhhh.  I'd like a little more detail on that part.

In reality I'm sure this is much more like "repeal and replace" where there was no "replace."

He doesn't give a shiat about the Cuban people.  He just wants the votes of those who came from there.

Technically there are at least five face holes. You will have to be more specific.

Yep, it's naked pandering to the Cubans down there in order to get them to vote for him.

It's been known for years that the Cubans in south Florida are hard line conservatives. I see whatever Trump is doing there, is just a waste of money - which is fine. Any Cubano who is not voting for Trump has already decided that, and I dare you to try getting them to change their mind.

Isn't the generation that actually cares about this dying out?  How many people in Florida can still be mad that the communists took their property in the 50's?

Sadly many of the Cuban-Americans I've seen or been forced to listen to like the free shiat Republicans trip over themselves to give them just because they ran from the Castro regime. Oh and they hate it when other minority groups get "free shiat" too.

Well yeah. He knows that the Cubanos in Florida hate the Cuban regime so much it's not funny. They'll claim it's all righteous and about rights, but they'll say it while their shopping bags are full of shiat made in China.

You think the one-issue Cuban voters care about the Cuban people (other than wanting more cruelty to a nation that continues to support Castro's legacy)?

How many of those people are left?  Castro seemed to live forever (I was convinced that Castro would be dead before Elian Gonzalez grew up.  But evil just doesn't die).  I suspect the GOP will be shocked once the one-issue Cuban support is all dead (although don't expect their evil to die any faster).

And what bad-asses those commies were!  Fidel came out of the hills with like 40 black dudes and the white Cubanos fell all over themselves to run away.  Worse than the French.

Then they wanted the USA to intervene and give them back their land, businesses and slave labor.  They still do.  Get one of the original refugees drunk and listen to them sometime.  They had to leave as the black majority was ready to pull a Waco on them for their evilness and racism.

Batista's reign was awful. Hundreds of thousands of unpaid and slave-wage laborers doing all the work while the fatcats sat around and took the spoils.  Cubans longing for that era are coonts.

Every dollar spent in Cuba gets laundered through the Government first... I wish people realizes that.  It is illegal for a Cuban to spend U.S. Dollars.. they have to turn them over to the Cuban Government who then pays them back in Cuban pesos.. basically pennies on a dollar.

So if you are patronizing Cuba in any way, you are helping its totalitarian government stay in power.

Yes, but to my point, Trump claims to be able circumvent the government somehow.  His claim is bigger than just denying the regime money.

I think it's fair to ask him what the plan is to do that, since he's just recently discovered the importance of Cuban-American voters.

It's another example of Trump waking up at the end of the semester and realizing he didn't do any of the coursework.  But he still thinks he can get an A.

This embargo will prove itself to be a huge success.  It will end communism in Cuba.  Also, after the regime falls, Cubans in South Florida will all get their family's Cuban property back.

This concludes my fantasy story time.  Tune in tomorrow to hear about how the people of Iran are just about ready to overthrow their government in favor of a secular democracy.

Yeah, Batista was no prize either, to be sure.

And was another example of the US saying, "Sure he's a disaster, but he's our disaster" only to have it come back and bite us in the ass.  Hard.

You mean the totalitarians in DC or in Habana?  I've met lots of Cuban Islanders in Mexico.  They are in no hurry to defect.

I was just reading that one in three kids in the US are food insecure, but DeVos has 12 houses.  Cuba ain't that bad given that they all in it together and their economic problems would be largely resolved if the US would step the fark back.

I've taken a real liking to the Atabey (insanely expensive as they are).  They said it's as close to a Cuban you can get here.  I never had a genuine one so I have no basis to say.  But they are super nice and great quality.

I spent 2 weeks in Santiago de Cuba in 1999 on a humanitarian visa.. we did not stay in 'tourist' hotels and had a lot of free time to talk to the locals.  A lot were starving back then they were getting food from the government that wasn't fit for pigs, but they were making do...   we bought out all the bottled water in town during that trip and rewarded our hosts with a 'family' style meal with food bought in the tourist shops.. they had no idea what a family style meal was.. they were all used to getting a single plate of food with measured amounts so everyone got the same amount.  There are also no toilet seats in the entire country.. we found that odd.

People survive.  Must it suck? Sure but keep in mind that most of their economic woes are because of the insane US boycott otherwise American tourists would be there taking advantage of nice beaches and cheap hookers in a relatively crime free country.

Most economic woes in the US are because someone wants 12 yachts.
