Was there anyone who has counting on his vote when planning to pack the court?

This is a confusing statement.  Are we pretending court packing is in good faith?  I thought we were simply accepting the fact that this is total war?

more like: we'll work in a bipartisan way if the other side so too.

2020-09-24 6:35:40 PM
If he wants to work in a bipartisan way then he can refuse to vote to confirm a justice to the Supreme Court until February.

Anything less than that and 13 justices here we come! (and statehood for D.C. and Puerto Rico)

There's nothing bad-faith about packing the court.  It's staving off Nazi infiltration of our government, which is about as good-faith as you can get.  It's undoing bad-faith measures.

I've been repeatedly told by militant centrists and DNC enablers that we can't hold Manchin's abysmal record against him because when really important things like SCOTUS votes happen, far better to have Joe making that decision than a Republican. Because reasons and such as. Guess I'm just too into purity testing to see the big picture here.

Holy f*ck, everyone.

The Republicans are acting in bad faith and negotiating with them is pointless. It has been that way for years.

Sorry for yelling. Been a rough time for me lately.

This is why I laugh and cry inside when these proposals about DC, PR statehood and having 13 SC justices are bantered here.

Manchin will snarl at every single one of these proposals and they'll probably be some other D that gets cold feet, and they'll fall just short.

D's better plan for 52 senators at a minimum for any of these plans to happen.

Paula Jean is getting my vote against Shelley this year.

As compared with electing a Republican? Not bad, he voted to remove trump from office and votes with democrats more than any other republican has. If we could swap all red state senators out for a Republican like him the country would be in a lot better spot overall. I'm sorry he isn't ultra progressive but he's from WV, and for that state he's about as progressive as you can get.

2020-09-24 6:53:39 PM
Joe Manchin is the best Democrat in the U.S. Senate.  I wish there were more Democrats similar to him.

Yes, nobody likes Manchin but you need him for the Senate math.  Without him it's going to be that much harder to take the Senate (and neuter Mitch) unless you can find another Democrat that West Virginia will elect, that seat's going to a Trump loving, Q-Anon believing Republican.

Red state Democrats are a necessarily evil - at least in the Senate.

Is the complaint here that the Democrats haven't yet won enough of the upcoming 2020 senatorial elections?

It's working better than ceding the seat to an actual Republican.  Obviously we'd prefer a progressive in that seat but it's West Virginia. Hopefully we get enough seats so he's not the limiting factor, but if it ends up 51-50 we'd be better off sometimes winning those votes (especially for majority leader) than keeping McConnell in charge.  That assumes he doesn't defect, but it's still better odds than primarying him.

Now, if Swearengin actually beats Capito then we can talk about Manchin the next time he's up for election.

Gee, that's something Joe Manchin hasn't tried yet, he is more concerned playing Democrat in a red state that he is more Republican from kissing Trumps ass.
